Well, yeah, I guess I was thinking "paid" was implicit in "subscribers." I wanted to save eMusic subscribers the two bucks they'd otherwise pay for d/ling it from iTunes. I wonder how many Pink Floyd/Syd songs Robyn has covered live compared to some other of his favorites? I am guessing that the Beatles would be the group he has covered most live, with Bob and the Velvet Underground also scoring pretty high. But he was off and on the stage quite alot all night. Eight Miles High was fucking brilliant: Robyn, Peter Buck, and Minus 5 lead guitarist all shredding together, and harmonies were divine. I guess my wish for the new album RH album is that YepRoc would include a limited edition bonus disc with live stuff from this current tour. The band was rock solid - I think this incarnation was slightly better than the Rock Armada tour of 1999. Doug Fir was a great space for the band to play in. I hope Robyn will play more shows here. I dig Aladdin Theater as much as the next guy, but there's something cool about seeing Robyn in a rock club instead of a majestic theater. If you've never been to Doug Fir, it is very Twin Peaks esque. The key style words are lemon yellow and log. =jbj= ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 06 Mar 2006 17:09:08 -0500 From: Roberta Cowan Subject: Re: undiscovered robyn tracks JBJ wrote: > A search on the iTunes music store today for Robyn Hitchcock brought > up an album I'd not heard of before called "Live & Direct". A quick Google search shows that it appears to be an Australian release but actually, it looks like most all of the download services have the tracks available. They are very entertaining, and man, what a set list... so many good reviews of this tour... it was literally impossible for me to get the local shows and I am increasingly profoundly bummed out about it. Looking at this again, I'm suprised that "The President" was in the acoustic section of the show, but it must've been great to hear it in any case. It's interesting that on the very rare occasions when Robyn has written political songs, he has nailed it to the ground and come up with songs for the ages (or maybe we just coincidentally keep winding up with leaders who sadly suck for the same reasons). - -Rx ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 6 Mar 2006 14:54:43 -0800 (PST) From: JBJ Subject: Re: Portland setlist, 3 Mar 03 On Mon, 6 Mar 2006, Spotted Eagle Ray wrote: > Looking at this again, I'm suprised that "The President" was in the acoustic > section of the show, but it must've been great to hear it in any case. It's Robyn seems to associate "The President" with Portland. It pops up on setlists here in Portland routinely, and in other places not so much or not at all. Of the last five or six times I've seen Robyn here in Portland, I think he's played that song 4 times. In 1997 or so (Aladdin Theater), he followed the "I reach for my shotgun.." line with a softly sung addendum "..just like Kurt". =jbj= p.s. you really should read Nat's blog entry -- she posted some of Robyn's between-song "verbals", which is always nice. I took alot of pictures, but am only pleased with a few. I'll try to figure out where to post them, and let y'all know. What about Seattle?? Any setlist from there? Reeve, a singer-actress who gave up some of her own career to be one of the nation's best-known caregivers, died late Monday at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Medical Center, said Kathy Lewis, president of the New Jersey-based Christopher Reeve Foundation, which both Reeves had chaired. Dana Reeve wasn't a smoker but she announced in August that she had been diagnosed with lung cancer. The couple had a 13-year-old son, Will, and Dana Reeve had two grown stepchildren, Matthew and Alexandra. "On behalf of the entire board of directors and staff of the Christopher Reeve Foundation, we are extremely saddened by the death of Dana Reeve, whose grace and courage under the most difficult of circumstances was a source of comfort and inspiration to all of us," Lewis said in a statement. Christopher Reeve, the one-time Hollywood "Superman" turned activist for spinal cord research after a 1995 horse-riding accident, died in 2004. Dana Reeve was a constant companion and supporter of her husband during his long ordeal and his work for a cure for spinal cord injuries. She was chairwoman of the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation, based in Short Hills, N.J., which funds research on paralysis and works to improve the life of the disabled. To date, it has awarded $55 million in research grants and $7.5 million in quality of life grants. She was performing in the Broadway-bound play "Brooklyn Boy" in California when she had to streak home to reach her husband's bedside before he died. She gave up the role for the New York run. Reeve also served on the boards of The Williamstown Theatre Festival, The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, TechHealth, and The Reeve-Irvine Center for Spinal Cord Research and as an advisory board member to the National Family Caregivers Association. She received numerous awards for her work, including the Shining Example Award from Proctor & Gamble in 1998, an American Image Award from the AAFA in 2003. In 2005, the American Cancer Society named her Mother of the Year. In addition to her son and step-children, she is survived by her father, Dr. Charles Morosini, and sisters Deborah Morosini and Adrienne Morosini Heilman. - -- FS Thomas | Interactive Developer | fsthomas-at-ochremedia.com 404.758.8616 (home/office) | 404.274.1632 (mobile) | ferraatu (AIM) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Mar 2006 09:44:34 -0600 From: 2fs Subject: reap Ali Farka Toure - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Mar 2006 14:10:22 -0500 From: wojizzle forizzle Subject: NEW on DIME: Jon Brion, Robin Hitchcock, Neil Finn and Grant Lee Buffalo @ Largo, W.
