At least one ("Nice Streets Above," if I recall) is shorter on the EPs. I think there were some minor mixing differences on a couple of tracks as well. I'd say that they're worth getting even if you don't want those tracks, because both EPs are sequenced for maximum quick impact (different from an album in that way) and so make the songs feel different even if they're sonically identical. This, of course, will be relevant to you only insofar as you're a Wire fanatic. - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Jan 2006 21:39:55 -0500 From: "Brian Nupp" Subject: I'll be damned! paging bayard RH 80% So I just got back in from out of town for a few days and I found a couple discs awaiting my arrival. some from fegs... and this: LOVELETTER: BEETHOVEN CHOPIN KITCHEN FRAUD. So this is why I'll be damned: This album, by Louis Philippe, is a covers album. Track 11 is the lost SOFT BOYS track: "Psychedelic Love." What a rarity! 'course this version, though I dig, is not nearly as powerful as the Soft Boys original even though the original I have is such poor quality you can here as much hiss as guitar. (Still looking for a better copy- hint hint). Still a gem and a shock to find someone covered it. Also a great version of Syd Barrett's "Apples and Oranges" included on this album... Also a great version of the Monochrome Set's RSVP. Oh and I found 3 Kurt Vonnegut books all together used for four dollars and twenty-five cents at a flea market. Heavy stuff. - -Nuppy ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Jan 2006 23:39:32 -0500 From: "Brian Nupp" Subject: Re: Reggae >A great choice. Some decent to very good performances, technically pretty good (though not great), but unlike "Traffic" (the movie I think it wants to be, except about race rather than the drug war) it fails to really get a firm grasp on it's subject matter in the any real way. And while all movies are manipulative to some extent, especially political ones, there are a few incidents that struck me as not only false, but preposterously so (especially the scene with Ryan Phillippe and Don Cheadle's little brother and the transition from the Korean couple in the hospital to Ludicrus trying to sell the van). Another thing that really strikes me is that while everyone talks about how awful Sandra Bullock's character behaves after she's carjacked, but no one talks about Brendan Fraser, whose actions are ultimately far, far worse. She has a temper tantrum -- he (quite possibly, and maybe even probably) completely ruins a basiclaly innocent person's life for the sake of political expediency, and politcal expediency that also rings incredibly false unless LA is even more fucked up than I think it is. Oddly enough, that Matt Dillon stuff which I expected to ring preposterous actually worked fairly well, in part because Thandie Newton and Loretta Divine are both so good. And having two car accidents caused by Asian drivers in a movie whose essential message seems to be that how everyone needs to acknowledge that their own racial shit stinks too would be funny if it wasn't assinine. Quite an impressive victory indeed. However, I can't take any pleasure in the Seahawks' success for one simple reason: It would mean Bert Kolde experiences happiness, and I can't allow that. Seeing him on the sidelines yesterday, standing behind Paul Allen and ready to shove his head up Paul's ass, just made me cringe. With all the film mentions I make that go totally ignored, I never would have dreamed "Crash" would be the film to ignite a "debate." I live about 15 minutes away from where the Lions use to play, the Pontiac Silverdome, where the Steelers will be practicing prior to the game at Ford Field in downtown Detroit. The Seahawks get to practice at Ford Field.
