This 9 year old DAT was extracted twice to get a acceptable extraction. A portion of "Heaven" was patched from the second extraction to create a completly flawless recording. The level of the crowd cheering was reduced by 50% to avoid blasts of volume at the ends of songs. As with many Robyn shows from this period, this performance features a guest appearance by the wonderful Deni Bonet on electric violin. This is a the late show and Robyn seems a bit cranky, but it is a nice intimate recording of a unique and eclectic artist. Enjoy! And it seems that it will be a feature film based on Earthsea, although I can't figure out how they will get it done by next summer. And Turner Classic Movies will be showing Ghibli films next month. Those who don't already know about Bailey should just avoid it. If anyone is curious about the man and his music, here are some of my favorites: IMPROVISATION (Cramps CD062/Ampersand 002) - Solo 1975. AIDA (Dexter's Cigar 5) - Solo 1980. BALLADS (Tzadik 7607) - Solo 2001. Bailey's take on several jazz standards. COMPANY 6 & 7 (Incus CD07) - 1997--Various groups featuring Anthony Braxton, Steve Lacy, Han Bennink and more. HARRAS (Avant 056) - 1994 trio with John Zorn and William Parker. LIMESCALE (Incus CD56) - 2002 quintet with Tony Bevan (bass saxophone), Alex Ward (clarinet), THF Drenching (dictaphone), and Sonic Pleasure (bricks). I'm sorry I can't give much by way of descriptions. I've deleted several attempts at this e-mail already. All of these should be available from Forced Exposure (fe.org). In general, anything by Bailey on Incus (his label) or Emanem (emanemdisc.com) is good. His albums on Tzadik and the IMPROVISATION album are available for download from Emusic, if you like that sort of thing, though I'd recommend staying away from his last album (CARPAL TUNNEL, Tzadik 7612) unless you're already familiar with Bailey's work. - -- Charles ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Dec 2005 12:41:46 -0800 From: "michael wells" Subject: looking to start a live RH collection? Well, I can help. In yet another cleanup operation, I'll be parting ways with a chunk of my archived of Robyn show cd's - probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 or 150 double-disc shows/combination of shows. It's not due to quality problems or any dissatisfaction with the music, it's just that many factors have conspired to leave me less and less time to enjoy them.and I'd rather they get used by someone rather than sit in a drawer gathering dust. Almost all of these shows were obtained in trade before DIME and other outlets became available, though that's not to say some haven't popped up since then. A number were obtained from the original tapers. Quite a few have artwork that I created, and if not then at least set lists (should) exist for all. I'll still be keeping my master recordings (obviously), and a few shows that are personal favorites. Other than that. I'm not too interested in doing a "pick and choose" thingy, but would rather bulk pack grab bags worth of stuff. Obviously this lends itself more to people who might have smaller collections, but if you are obsessed with locating a particular show ask and I'll see if I have it. Don't need trades, but would welcome help in covering postage and/or blanks. If you're interested, write offlist please!
