They're local in the sense that Eric is from here, but the others seem to come and go...I guess I never thought of them that way, and I couldn't tell you who's playing with him now. Their 2005 disc SPELLED IN BONES is on my list, though. I am, however, championing The Redwalls and their latest disc DE NOVA. It has a warm, garage-y atmosphere but the songs are really tight, well-constructed little pop gems. A little Beatles and Bowie filled out with heavier midrange guitar, check out www.theredwalls.com for more. Another local you may want to look for is Nora O'Conner - she's played with about a million people, check out the bio at http://www.bloodshotrecords.com/artists/noraoconnor . Haven't purchased the album but have caught about half the material live in one form or another; the cover of Leonard Cohen's "Joan of Arc" is probably my favorite of those that I have heard. I had the chance to talk with Wes about the group at some length...he's very pleased to be in a position to make a record like this (a cappella traditional folk music, lyrics based on his first book which came out last year), but also seems pleasantly surprised by the reception it has gotten. After their last show here - part Wes solo, part Love Hall Tryst - he said the merch table sold something like 50 copies of SONGS OF MISFORTUNE into a crowd of a couple hundred. Not sure that would have happened without Wes' drawing power to begin with, but it's still nice to see people buying music like this. > Question - is it The Secret Machines, or just Secret Machines? iTunes has NHIN by TSM, but S000 is by SM (that make sense?). Even the band's web site is ambiguous. SM is my take - the EP follow up to NHIH has it that way, as does most of the current press that I've seen. Speaking of press, the new album TEN SILVER DROPS has been slated for a 2006 release and the tracklisting just announced. Any disc that takes 45 minutes for eight songs and leads off with a song called "Alone, Jealous and Stoned" has definite promise. >> I hope you got the proper AUTOBAHN with the title song in all its 20+ minute glory, instead of the little 8 or 9 minute "mix" versions on iTunes...? > 22:43, motherfucker! I don't necessarily disagree with the general idea, and I can understand why Burned can grate, but maybe the tone doesn't annoy me that much since I liked so little grunge that those tones never because as tired as they could have. I realize that sounds somewhat counter-logical, but I never thought Nirvana (whom I really liked and still do) never had much in common with Pearl Jam or Soundgarden or Alison Chains except geography and chronology. _Burned_ IS a dumb record, but I guess I almost think of it (in terms of it's ultimate result, not it's intent) as the Bunnymen equivolent of The Dukes of Stratosphear, but hyper-garage rather than hyper-psychedelic. Counter-logical? Seems Like common sense to me, Although the history books will probably say otherwise... I can kinda see the Dukes of the Stratosphear / Electrafixion thing, except that there was no crass commercial impetus for XTC to do a faux-psych record at the time, while Elexctrafixion was blatant, if conceivably sincere, bandwagoneering. - -Rx ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Dec 2005 10:08:08 +0100 From: Sebastian Hagedorn Subject: Re: Feel My Pulse Re: Rekkids this year - --On 14.
