I thought I hadn't really heard anything about her, but as soon as she came onstage I remembered the infamous thread we've had here ... ;-) They were indeed har to overlook, but not in a bad way. She was pretty good I thought, getting better as her set progressed. I suck at show reviews. Anyway, of course later on she joined Rufus for one song. After the show she signed CDs so I got her to sign the one I'd just bought. I barely brought out two sentences in English. Sigh. It was the first time I've seen Rufus, whereas a friend of mine has been following him religiously. There were moments that brought tears to my eyes, because I have a weakness for sentimental music. Other songs were just so-so. Still, his charisma and presence made up for any shortcomings. Just because of his charm I guess I will go to any future shows he may play here ... one of the highlights was a cover of "Chelsea Hotel". He also played a Schubert song :-) Night night. - -- Sebastian Hagedorn Ehrenfeldg|rtel 156, 50823 Kvln, Germany http://www.spinfo.uni-koeln.de/~hgd/ "Being just contaminates the void" - Robyn Hitchcock ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 22 Nov 2005 21:10:56 -0800 From: "michael wells" Subject: RE: reap > Chris Whitley Oh, bloody hell. SOFT DANGEROUS SHORES is one of the best albums of the year. At the risk of starting a music thread, I've started compiling by faves of 2005. Aside from Chris' album, a few others that have struck well with me. THE STORM IS COMING - Ed Harcourt HEAVY MELLOW - Chris Coco ILLINOIS - Sufjan Stevens THE FAST RISE AND FALL OF THE SOUTH - The Kingsbury Manx THE DUHKS - The Duhks MARSHMALLOW - Marshmallow CHAMELEON - Doyle Dykes DE NOVA - The Redwalls THE ROAD LEADS WHERE IT'S LED (EP) - The Secret Machines LIFE IN SLOW MOTION - David Gray SIDE ONE / SIDE TWO - Adrian Belew CHILDISH THINGS - James McMurtry Plus here's a bunch of 'close but no cigar' releases this year, most of which involve white guys with a lot of angst. Hmph. What's on other lists? MW ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Nov 2005 08:44:16 -0500 From: "Stewart C. Yeah, I guess there's not a chance of anything decent coming out before the new year. So put on that cardigan, pour that mulled wine, and cue up 'A John Waters Christmas' ... > What's on other lists? Ditto on the Sufjan and Marshmallow, though I gotta listen to The Duhks more, 'cos it did nothing for me first time around. I'm pretty sure I'll be including Sigur Ros, Kate Rusby and Bright Eyes on the list. A very pleasantly surprising find is CARIBOU, which John the CD Pusher slipped me at the weekend. They're a deal more electronic than I usually like; imagine a slightly more shambolic Lemon Jelly, or OTC with less Wilson and more rhythm. James, especially, might like them. The CD I have is 'Marino Audio', which may be a sampler. cheers, Stewart np: Caribou - The Snow Capes (on my newly Rockbox'd iRiver -- rockbox really does rock, btw) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Nov 2005 21:27:17 +0000 From: Carrie Galbraith Subject: Gobbling in a pending blizzard in NI Just wishing all the American Fegs a Happy Turkey Day! - - c ------------------------------ End of fegmaniax-digest V14 #273 ********************************
