I probably missed a few good ones after she left then I imagine, or did they go downhill after she left and Mark E. lost his muse? Michael B. While it's certainly true that the Fall were at their most "appealing" (i.e., tunes, relatively clear production) during this period - and a lot of those records are among my favorite Fall LPs - I'm not sure it's accurate to call Brix MES's "muse," since he wrote loads of excellent stuff before they'd met (a lot of fans' favorites, in fact) and he's had several, uh, muses since. Perhaps she was just a better muse. Anyway: my reading is that they've been less consistent since the late '80s, but that there's enough good material there that if you generally like their music, you ignore it completely at your peril. I'm away from my collection and am terrible at remembering titles - but I like _Country on the Click_ or _The Real New Fall Album_ quite a bit, and of the post-'80s output, I like _Middle Class Revolt_ and _The Unutterable_ pretty well. And you know, if you're looking for consistency, on nearly any album the Fall isn't the best place to look... - -- ...Jeff The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Oct 2005 17:07:38 -0400 (EDT) From: Aaron Mandel Subject: RE: wizened gargoyle music On Mon, 10 Oct 2005, Bachman, Michael wrote: > I stopped getting any new Fall after Brix left the band in the late > 80's. The Fall didn't really start making good records again until she came back in the mid-90s, though they stayed worthwhile afterward. Cerebral Caustic and Levitate are the best of the lot, with Light-User Syndrome, The Marshall Suite and The Unnutterable also worthwhile. If memory serves, CC and LUS are the only two of those with Brix playing. a ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Oct 2005 19:44:00 -0700 From: Eb Subject: reap Louis Nye, 92. May I point you in the direction of A Past Gone Mad, a compilation of something like 1990-2000? Well worth it I assure you... Proper albums since the late 80s I'd recommend are The Infotainment Scam, Code:Selfish, Levitate, Are You Are Missing Winner and The Real New Fall LP (Formerly Country On The Click). They're playing here in Oxford later this month, supported by my mate James' band Nought - should be a fantastic gig! The network said Wednesday it has canceled the Paris Hilton-Nicole Richie reality series after the show's two stars no longer proved compatible. The feuding ex-friends will not return for a fourth season, even though the network had picked up the options on their contracts. Fox said its midseason schedule didn't have a time slot for the show. "We did not see a place for `The Simple Life' on our schedule this season," the network said in a statement. However, 20th Century Fox Television, the studio that produces the show, hopes "The Simple Life" will move to another network - with Hilton and Richie. "We're disappointed that `The Simple Life' will not continue on Fox where it has performed so well, but we believe this series ... is still a dynamic and valuable franchise," the studio said in a statement. "We hope to be able to announce a new network partner in the coming days." Bunim-Murray Productions, which produces the show with 20th Century Fox, also released a hopeful statement: "We're very excited about the creative plans for the next group of episodes, and are confident this situation will be remedied quickly." Us Weekly first reported the show's cancellation. When reached for comment, Hilton didn't sound as though she expected the show to return. "I'm really excited about my movie projects, my new album and all my various other business ventures," she told the magazine. The fish-out-of-bottled-water show started in 2003 with Hilton and Richie - both accustomed to plush lifestyles - spending the spring in the town of Altus, Ark., doing farm chores and working at the local dairy and gas station. The series continued for two more seasons, including an "intern" edition in the business world. But in April, Hilton issued a terse statement saying it was "no big secret that Nicole and I are no longer friends. Nicole knows what she did, and that's all I'm ever going to say about it." The hotel heiress has given no reason for the split. She lobbied for Richie to be replaced by Rod Stewart's 26-year-old daughter, Kimberly, but Fox dismissed that option. Richie, the 24-year-old daughter of Lionel Richie, became engaged to club DJ Adam Goldstein in February. Hilton, 24, earlier this month called off her engagement to Greek shipping heir Paris Latsis. ------------------------------ End of fegmaniax-digest V14 #241 ********************************
