Our office was nonsmoking -- I think the rule was that [employees] could smoke pot in their office, but not cigarettes. Courtney Love came in smoking a cigarette. The person behind the front desk said, "Could you please put that cigarette out?" And she put it out on the carpet and rubbed it in with her shoe. She was depositing a classified ad looking for a drummer for Hole, and she gave us a check for, I think it was $12.57, and it was signed by Kurt Cobain. At that point, Cobain was starting to become fairly known, [Love] was with him, he already had a platinum record. The receptionist came back and said, "Should we deposit this?" Yeah, but not as famous as he became after his self-inflicted lead surgery. That reminds me: what's Kurt Cobain's favorite Jam song?
