A friend of his got the gig. I *love* the quote on the poster behind the Zappa boys in the first image - reads something like "[If you can't] write a chord ugly [enough to say] what you want to say sometimes [you] have to rely on a giraffe [filled] with whipped cream." So true. It reminds me of the climactic moments of the Sacrificial Dance in Stravinsky's _Rite of Spring_ when, after a crushing polytonal blast on low brass and woodwinds in E-flat major and B minor augmented by a tremendous walloping on five bass drums, a large, pig-shaped pinata is smashed with a cricket bat by the violin section. - -- ...Jeff The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 Jul 2005 00:05:15 -0400 From: "Lauren Elizabeth (gmail)" Subject: Re: [RobynHitchcockClub] NEW on DIME: Robyn Hitchcock - Lions Lair, Denver, CO - April 4, 2005 Not to usurp Mr. woj (or perhaps to and attempt to get away with it...) but the dime "mail-bot" is down, so I figured I would take this opportunity to announce a reseed of the fine White Album gig (Disc 1) on www.dimeadozen.org: http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=52603 "This is a reseed of the first CD of the White Album show which was a benefit for Midecins Sans Frontihres. That's a Ryko promo. Seeing that again caused a google or two, and reminded me the man had a few brilliant quotations. Can anyone recommend a Zappa bio? I know there's quite a few out there... - -f. Wow, Jandek. I'd forgotten about him. A friend of mine was learning guitar and asked her teacher to help her with Jandek's chords. He couldn't figure them out. My old band used to do a song we called "Scraping Jandek Off the Wheel." In the middle of the song, I imitated Jandek as he was hit by a car (think "Leader of the Pack"). It was meant to be humor; now it just sounds gruesome. - -Bill (a relative newbie to the feglist but longtime Robyn fan) >From: wojizzle forizzle >Reply-To: wojizzle forizzle >To: the big Ebowski >Subject: Re: Are there any Jandek fans here? >Date: Tue, 26 Jul 2005 22:24:40 -0400 > >one time at band camp, Eb said: >>I heard about this, but didn't know if anyone here would care. > >i wouldn't call myself a fan but i'm intrigued enough to go. > >>Damn, the Jandek site now has lyrics for all the albums! Your little music comments have led me to some music I really really dig (like Of Montreal). I honestly don't know what year I signed up on fegmaniax, but I think it was 1996(?). I wish I knew the date. I've been very silent on this list lately due to all sorts of happenings. I've had to deal with water in my basement due to a landscaping problem. I practically lived down there tinkering with sounds. I can't wait to get it fixed and resume my normal rituals. I got engaged in late May! Eligible bachelor, no more. It took a while, but I found the perfect partner for me. Time to seal the deal, as it were. My band, lazerlove5, had a show on Saturday and we were graced with the presence of ultra-super-friendly feg, Michael Bachman. Not a bad turn out in general. We played two Robyn Hitchcock songs, one Monochrome Set song and 11 originals. The Reverend C. Hintz was to appear, but unfortunately couldn't make it. Chris, I got your email and I hope everything's OK. Missed ya. Chris, I got your email >and I hope everything's OK. Missed ya. Brian, you should play out more often! Lazerlove5 had a larger turnout then the Pernice Brothers who I saw two days before. Tuesday night I had my first really bad band experience, Teenage Fanclub cancelled their show at Saint Andrews in Detroit. Not due to low ticket sales or illness, but due to the fact they got hung up in customs at the Canadian border! They played New York City over the weekend, went to Toronto and played on Monday night, then got hung up trying to re-enter the US on Tuesday. I was not exactly the "ultra-super-friendly feg" waiting for the band to show up or someone to open the doors at Saint Andrews. Does Blow Master automatically credit your credit card for cancelled shows? Probably minus the service fee I bet!
