But no one argues over the "set" part of the name. In fact (as I noticed the other day) most "box[ed] sets" these days look a lot less like "boxes" and a lot more like books: taller than wide, and narrow. > <(FWIW, my gmail ads on the margin refer to "box > sets" - not "boxed sets.")> > > that's beside the point. it *is* however, a good indication of which term > will eventually prevail -- and an indication that *i*, not you, is the one > who should be peeved. My peeves are imperious creatures who demand no logic or justification to support their existence, actually... > speaking of j. lennon, is he generally considered to have been a good > dancer? Erm, was Paul singing to him when he said "you may be a lover but you ain't no dancer"? Doubtful... On the list of attributes generally tossed Lennon's way, I don't recall "dancer" being very much up there. Not that I'd know if it were, or care much. - -- ...Jeff The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Jul 2005 23:46:34 -0500 From: Jeff Subject: Did everyone else go on vacation or something? - -- ...Jeff The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Jul 2005 22:59:57 -0700 From: Eb Subject: Re: "Masturbate" spelt backwards Eddie Tews wrote: > young Patti Smith singing "Horses" on the Grey Whistle Test which > would have been amazing, but they only show it for about 15 seconds.> > > huhn. that didn't make it onto the *Whistle Test* DVD either (nor > did the > egyptians' appearance). it's a great DVD, though -- especially the > john > lennon interview. (and believe me when i tell you that skynrd's > performance of "Freebird" is jaw-droppingly good...) Who else is on it? That punk documentary showed some other band playing on The Old Grey Whistle Test, but I can't recall who it was. Might have been the New York Dolls? This morning, I awoke in horror. I had gone to sleep wearing two anti- mockingbird earplugs, but awoke with only one. I searched my bedding, and could not find the missing item. The unavoidable conclusion was that I had lost it internally, that it had burrowed inward to my brain. After a painful day wasted on trying to forcefully sneeze it out, I finally did find the errant giblet behind the bed, against the wall. Whew, really dodged a bullet there. A tough lesson in anatomy learned. Eb ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Jul 2005 09:44:30 +0100 (BST) From: Tulloch Subject: Reap Gretchen Franklin, 94. If I'd have known that Marshmallow were going to be at Cornbury, I'd have gone along. I wasn't particularly interested in Costello to Winehouse, but a chance to see Marshmallow live would be worth the price of admission by itself. And much more. It's one of the best albums I've ever heard. I can't recommend it highly enough. Damn. I'd better go to their website and find out if they are playing anywhere else. Should have done that before now, really. :^( x Jim ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Jul 2005 11:49:42 -0400 From: "Brian Nupp" Subject: Coverville http://www.coverville.com/ Does anyone follow these shows? Well, it's one of the ones that is getting played the podcasting at my work. The show where he wanked about people "covering" their own songs though made me completely disregard him -- sorry, but Elvis Costello doing a song he wrote for someone else might borderline qualify, but still isn't really much of a cover. Aimee Mann doing a 'til Tuesday song is sure as fucking shit not a cover. He also, like almost everyone hosting a music podcast, talks _WAY_ too fucking much. > Ok, self-full promotion here: I haven't heard this show > yet, but besides a cover of Lady Madonna, they played > Lazerlove5's version of The Man With The Black Moustache > (that James will most likely cringe at).
