FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK! Hi Folks! I decided yesterday that I would NOT go near the Decemberists' boards so that I could try to de-tox from my two days of Decemberists hysteria. I knew that there would be nothing too agitating on the feglist, so I meandered over there to find WHAT!!!!! - post after post after post about the Decemberists show at Warsaw in Brooklyn (the borough where I spent the first 17 years of my life, for crying out loud!). I AM SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GREEN WITH ENVY!! On the other hand, I'm really happy to know that a group of fegs was there, grooving on the excellentitude of Colin and co. From the D board, it seems that this was some kind of extra-special show (with the band in Polish garb and a finale of the Tain). I hope that you were all very happy, you lucky sons 'o bitches!!!! Seriously, I feel like one of the girls that you see screaming in A Hard Day's Night. At my advanced age, it takes some kind of crazy force to get a reaction of this magnitude. I keep wondering, over and over, what would have happened if I had walked into Newbury Comics before Christmas five minutes later and had missed The Soldiering Life. But I'll never know. I only know that I am a rabid fan, and that I feel somewhat dangerous at the moment. Our own Corporal Bradley is smiling, I believe. This morning at breakfast, while reading the sports section, I mumbled, "This is so unfair." My son came back with, "What, that they didn't mention the Decemberists?" Such is the mockery and derision that I face because of this band of west coasters. Steve wrote and I reply: "Colin Meloy's voice doesn't grate on me as much as I thought it would." Sweet, golden tones, my boy. Grate? Never. "Petra Haden belts out Wuthering Heights. Goosebumps ensue." She did a great job with this in Boston, but she has had her rough moments, as I have noticed on about a thousand concert downloads. "I'm unfamiliar with a few of their earlier songs, but I'll be damned if I didn't enjoy every single song played last night. I've been digging Picaresque for the past few months and they covered the majority of it. The encore concluded with the extremely high-rock theatre, The Tain." OK, so first you go out and buy Castaways and Cutouts and MEMORIZE it. Then get 5 Songs (which is really 6 songs). Then get Her Majesty, which gets better and better with each listening. See if you can dig up The Tain, and get a copy of Colin's Morrissey covers. Then you can go on medication. Stewart and Chris, we just know, right? I'm going to post the two reviews (the Burlington, Vermont show and the Boston show) that I wrote for the Decemberists boards here, and all of you can scroll down if you find it too boring or the band too twee. Here come loose the hounds.... Jill (who owns one fewer Smiths shirt at the moment) P.S. If anyone wants copies of either of the above shows, let me know. We can work something out. Warsaw may have been great, but you didn't get to here "I Don't Want to Lose Your Love Tonight" or "Shame on Wet Rocks" (Colin's closest approximation to a RH song, as far as I can tell). ------------------------------ End of fegmaniax-digest V14 #135 ********************************
