(though, if it came to the choice of sitting in a jail cell or helping through my activities to propagate militarism, the choice would be pretty damned easy.) i don't understand what you mean by "smarter". the price of oil can't be controlled by *powerful* interests, let alone those opposed to motor-car culture. in a decade, we *are* going to be living in "some agrarian utopia with only local connections" (or something very resembling that), whether or not we consider it our ideal world. some people think that arabian production has already peaked. the current rise in gas prices is kinda like standing on the beach, watching the increased wave-activity in advance of an approaching hurricane.
