I guess I am a smug sort of person who refuses to back up my outlandish opinions. As for economic theories I have none, my childhood dream of being a full time poet just hasn't paid off in the real world, silly me. I'm hip, and that's one reason I've switched over to self-administered teleportation. No more messing around with filthy proles at bus stops for this cat. In all fairness, however, I should report that attempts to zap myself into Scarlett Johansson's closet have thus far proved unsuccessful. Economy is the major concern I have when choosing a car. And in a country this shape and population what else are you gonna do? The population's too small for public transport to be a fully viable alternative, and - other than the city I live in - the nearest town with 10000 people is 75 miles away. I do walk into the city occasionally, but that's very time consuming and there ain't no way I'd carry large canvases in that far (again, you can't use public transport for that either). I have a station wagon, but it averages 45 mpg (6.2 l/100k) James (opinionated lefty with a south pacific fixation) PS - actually, I'm a cider man, too. - -- James Dignan, Dunedin, New Zealand -.-=-.-=-.-=-.-=-.-=-.-=-.-=-.-=-.-=-.-=-.-=-.-=-.-=-.-=-.-=-.- =-.-=-.-=-.- You talk to me as if from a distance .-=-.-=-.-=-. -=-. I work at home, but the galleries I deal with are in various parts of this and other cities. And it would be churlish of me - when asked to review art exhibitions - to ask the galleries to bring the work over to my house. (or did i just answer my own question?) here're two or three pennies, anyway. ever read the business page? if you do, you'll find that the incentive (higher profits) of giving closer to .01% is much stronger than whatever incentive there may be to give 99.9%. ask any socialist (or at least any anarchist), and you'll be told that the goal is to produce for *use* rather than for *profit*. in other words, "creating wealth" is not the goal. pollution, for example, "creates wealth" because somebody gets paid to clean it up. sounds a bit like the emphysema patient telling his doctor that, "it would be nice if i could stop smoking, but i can't." so which is it -- not possible, or not practical? at any rate, we'll see how much more practical it "becomes" as the price of gas continues to rise. ------------------------------ End of fegmaniax-digest V14 #126 ********************************
