I've seen Belly a bajillion times, and I >saw the Kristin-David-Bernard lineup of The Muses a couple of times. i've only seen belly a couple times, early on. there was the aforementioned cmj show (which i stupidly did not tape), where they were on the 4ad bill with red house painters (who were really quite good) and medicine (who were also really quite good and really loud). i also saw them at the old knitting factory which, as i recall, was one of the first shows that gail greenwood played at. velocity girl opened. 'twas a fun night though i hardly remember it. hmmmm. that seems to be, as i recall it anyway, one of the first openly "alternative rock" shows that took place at the old knitting factory. of course, i may just not have been playing close enough attention. woj, catching up ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 01 May 2005 09:43:26 -0400 From: wojizzle forizzle Subject: Re: The return of MMOH one time at band camp, Gene Hopstetter, Jr. said: >OK, I know of at least one person (*cough*woj*cough*) who'll want to know >this: Mary Margaret O'Hara is performing live at the Suoni Per Il Popolo >jazz festival in Italy this June: > >http://www.casadelpopolo.com/suoni/spectacles.htm i think Eb would want to know this too! threadmerge: mmoh was one person i thought i'd never see live. saw her at st. ann's several years ago. wow. she basically performed the _miss america_ album but it was stunning. woj n.p. petra haden and bill frisell ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 01 May 2005 10:10:29 -0400 From: wojizzle forizzle Subject: Re: Fwd: Robyn on 3voor12 >Might be interesting: today 15:00 - 16:00 Robyn will be in some sort >of show at VPRO WebRadio (Dutch). >After that, the show will be kept in the archive. > >http://3voor12.vpro.nl/3voor12/index.jsp >Select Web Radio >Select 3voor12 Roots (Americana station) did anyone catch this? or manage to record it? i can't seem to find it in their archives... woj ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 01 May 2005 10:00:49 -0400 From: spalmerston@cogeco.ca Subject: Robyn Hitchcock May 2005 tour postponed? Just stepping out of lurker mode for a second with a quick question... I heard on Friday through someone at YepRoc's Canadian distributor that Robyn's brief tour at the end of May (Montreal, Toronto, Hamilton and Waterloo, Ontatio) have been postponed indefinitely because Robyn fractured his ankle last week. Anyone else know if this is indeed true? I seem to recall Catherine O'Hara once referring to having a sister named Mary Margaret -- hosting SNL, I think. Not that Irish Catholic families with a daughter named Mary Margaret are exactly rare, there are probably only 25-30,000 Mary Margaret O'Haras on the face of the Earth at any given moment.... That seems to be the case with the folks I know who have seen it. Though I liked it quite a bit and have been acquainted with it for almost as long as it's existed. The common complaint among those familiar with the material is that there are lots of set-ups for the jokes and few of the actual punchlines. Really, they should have just thrown in every little dialog joke and let the thing just overwhelm people like the books do. Best jokes NOT in the movie that not only had a place, but time to tell them: Ford: It's rather unpleasantly like being drunk. Arthur: What's so unpleasant about being drunk? Ford: Ask a glass of water. [and] Arthur: It's times like these that I wish I'd listened to what my mother always used to say. Ford: What did she always used to say? Arthur: I don't know. I wasn't listening. Gee, I just ran `apt-get dist-upgrade` and it replaced every component of my operating system and upgraded all of my applications in less than an hour (while also notifying me of potentially dangerous permissions and open services). That $130 I saved will be buying me lunch for the month. There was a show booked at a little pub at UCI, and the Breeders cancelled at the last minute. I went anyway because I wanted to see Unrest (switched from opening act to headliner), but I sure wish the Breeders had been there. I guess scheduling varies from region to region, but there was an excellent Ramones documentary on PBS last night. Hope others caught it. By the way, I'm delinquent once again. I *did* see the reunited Undertones last Saturday, but haven't "reviewed" it. Maybe confessing this now will motivate me to compose some thoughts later this afternoon. Sure would like to see the reunited Gang of Four -- temporarily wish I lived somewhere else, so I could catch them minus the Coachella extravaganza. Hopefully, they'll come back on their own.... Eb ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 1 May 2005 15:24:48 -0700 (PDT) From: bayard Subject: RH and archive.org Hey all, Robyn has given permission for recordings of his shows to be archived at the Live Music archive, at archive.org. Archive.org is a fabulous site that is working on archiving everything from Web sites to amiga games, and now Robyn Hitchcock shows as well. If you sign up with the site you can even upload shows. You can download without even signing up, in a variety of formats... a show has been uploaded already: http://www.archive.org/audio/etree-details-db.php?id=24857 PLEASE NOTE: Robyn has stipulated that soundboard recordings made at venues are not to be uploaded. But if you have a great audience or radio station recording, by all means upload it. This particular site follows intellectual property law strictly, so it should stick around for the duration, unlike other sites that may come and go and come again. http://www.archive.org/audio/etree.php bayard ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 01 May 2005 21:33:57 -0400 From: wojizzle forizzle Subject: Re: RH and archive.org one time at band camp, bayard said: >Robyn has given permission for recordings of his shows to be archived at >the Live Music archive, at archive.org. wahoo! thanks to bayard and thomas for persuing this and making it happen >PLEASE NOTE: Robyn has stipulated that soundboard recordings made at >venues are not to be uploaded. unfortunate, but understandable. from the policy statement bayard got, which is up on archive.org, , it seems that this is a complete ban on all trading of soundboards. obviously, there are many out there and i'm sure more will appear...but at least as far as electronic distribution of board tapes go, this appears to be pretty clear. >But if you have a great audience or radio station recording, by all means >upload it. one caveat i would mention: there are many widely-circulated shows for which we have the original recording available to us. so, i think it would be wise, in the interest of getting the best possible version of a recording archived, to check with folks before uploading something. obviously, if it's your tape that you're uploading, go for it! but if you have a umpteenth generation copy of a show or a cd that you don't know the details about, please ask since chances are good that a lot of us already know their history. woj ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 May 2005 10:32:11 -0700 From: Tom Clark Subject: Re: Bands I'll never see.....
