I just checked, and I've only bought three albums released this year so far, and two of them (Graham Coxon and Ash) were released last year in other countries (the other being 50 Foot Wave). I've heard three songs so far, and felt like NONE of them had the usual magic. Sounded like very tired Odelay rehash. I'm expecting a big disappointment. I'm not sure what the "usual magic" is but "Que Onda Geuro?", "Girl", "Missing", "Earthquake Weather", and "Broken Drum" spec-tac-u-lar! There are songs that are reminiscent of all his albums (save the hidious Midnite Vultures) but it's not a Odelay rehash by any stretch. > I've fallen behind with Of Montreal, but coincidentally have Satanic > Panic in the Attic and Then Who Will Protect Big Oil coming in the mail > to me right now. Satanic Panic is fan freaking tastic but i never picked up Then Who Will Protect Big Oil. The whole concept sound bad and the David Barnes cover illustatiuon of W was way creepy. Can anyone vouch for it? The second was "Girl" which is sucked live but is great on the record. Tivo is the only way to watch SNL it turns a 90 minute ordeal into a nice 30 minute show. I usually just watch it live, and then switch on something taped during the commercial breaks/painful skits/bad music. Ah, lovely VHS. current film-in-progress: "The Navigator" (another Buster Keaton silent) Eb ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 Apr 2005 13:52:09 -0700 From: Tom Clark Subject: Re: guero sunlandic On Apr 18, 2005, at 1:05 PM, Nora B. wrote: > > I think the first song on SNL was "E-Pro" which is all around awful. > The second was "Girl" which is sucked live but is great on the record. > I so wanted to like that performance, but it just added more incentive for me to avoid the entire CD. To me it has the feeling of hearing Odelay for the first time, yet tempered with the experience of his more downbeat albums. The older tour CD of the same name has a different track listing to the one you can buy now. I have the later edition, and while it's no Gay Parade, it's fun enough. cheers, Stewart ------------------------------ End of fegmaniax-digest V14 #99 *******************************
