By the way, are any of you going to see Robyn in Lafayette, Indiana? No? Didn't think so. That's too bad because we could meet up before the show. There's a Long John Silver's nearby, and we could get paper hats and act like pirates. I'd let you look at my booty and we could drink the malt vinegar straight out the bottle. Yo ho! I can't remember Robyn being in Indiana during the time I've listened to him. I do know that a friend of mine (Ratboy) who lived in Terre Haute, Indiana, and knew of my Robyn Hitchcock obsession once informed me that his dentist (in Terre Haute) had an autographed vinyl copy of Eye on one of the walls in his office. According to his story, the dentist told him that Robyn had stopped in Terre Haute for some emergency dental work during a tour. I really thought Ratboy was reliable, but the story seems so coincidental and unlikely. I'm wondering if any of you can show me any evidence that supports this (i.e. Robyn had a tour stop in Indianapolis during an Eye tour). And for what it's worth, I like Eb. I doubt I'd still be on this list without him. - --Shane - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Express yourself instantly with MSN Messenger! Note that in some technical contexts - I think I've read about two being technical instruction and the editing of legal documents - this is not the case. There, periods, commas, etc., need to be placed precisely where they, logically, belong, so as not to mislead. But historically, these things change - my theory is that things in which: (a) there's no logical reason to continue, and; (b) students invariably make the same mistake - indicate the direction things are likely to evolve...clarity winning out over hidebound, rulebased behavior, simply because the rules need to be enforced to persists, whereas clarity and logic have their own momentum. This, sadly, seems not to apply in politics (even though you and I disagree on the specifics, I think we'd still agree on the truth of this statement). - -- ...Jeff The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 Mar 2005 11:27:39 -0800 (PST) From: bayard Subject: [none] I have added a recent Washington Post blurb to the glass hotel: http://www.glasshotel.net/gh/scans/rh3-2005.jpg If you want to browse all the stuff: http://www.glasshotel.net/gh/scans/ And a couple things got updated elsewhere in the site: http://www.glasshotel.net/gh/ - -- FRIENDS - please note: i have a new email address. Okay, it could have been stranger, but it was still strange. I happened to be standing next to Max at the bar, and I told him how much I loved the first album. I don't think he believed me. But it's true. Oh yes, it's true. I have an alternative suggestion regarding the amount of noise on the list. Apart from being an obvious reflection of the zeitgeist, and the downwarde spiral that is capitalism, it might also mean that Robyn's recent recordings and performances are just _so_ good that people can't find any coherent complaints to make about them. [ Eddie must be smoking crack, etc, etc. ] I remember quitting the list back in the early 90s when every other message seemed to be an insane, unsupportable, complaint about, for example, Andy Metcalfe's bass playing. (See Aidan Merritt, preferably before he sees you). And then I came back. And then I left again, later, when it seemed like the signal was disappearing in the noise. And then I came back, when I realised that it wasn't that bad, really, compared to the amount of nonsense in my email, in the paper, and on the television. And my mail reader pages down pretty quickly. \/ So someone tell Rex that he doesn't have to go.
