You are most certainly "welcome," in fact you are probably more "welcome" than Eb or me. I think you are over-reacting; but I understand that, believe me. Take a few days to put things into perspective, but for Heaven's sake, don't quit the list on account of a few rounds of criticism. - --Quail ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Mar 2005 13:07:29 -0500 From: Ross.Overbury@cn.ca Subject: reap Paul Hester, drummer with Split Enz/Crowded House. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Mar 2005 10:51:02 -0800 From: Eb Subject: program note THE ORIGINAL DINOSAUR JR. REUNITE AFTER 15 YEARS AND WILL PERFORM TOGETHER FOR THE FIRST TIME ON TELEVISION ON CBS' LATE LATE SHOW WITH CRAIG FERGUSON. PLUS, J MASCIS + THE FOG WITH VERY SPECIAL GUESTS: APRIL 16 AT SPACELAND IN HOLLYWOOD. Los Angeles, CA) So much has changed since Dinosaur Jr. last roamed the Earth. But one thing hasn't - they still reign as one of rock's most powerful. The buzz surrounding the recent reissue of Dinosaur Jr.'s first three albums has made certain that the music of these post-grunge legends is as relevant today as it was 15 years ago. Whether they intended to or not, J Mascis (guitar/vocals), Lou Barlow (bass) and Murph (drums) forever changed the face of rock & roll music. Their sonic wall of melodic bass, furious drums and stunning guitar wizardry, coupled with an almost laissez faire vocal delivery, became the sonic blueprint for what has become known as "alternative rock." J, Lou, and Murph haven't played together since 1989. And, despite their groundbreaking musical accomplishments, the original Dinosaur Jr. lineup never did perform on national TV - until now. Almost two decades later, the trio will bring their jaw dropping live performance back to the stage; their reunion will be debuted on CBS' Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson on Friday, April 15. A day later, at Hollywood's Spaceland, J Mascis + the Fog with VERY special guests will perform a full show to 300 lucky fans. Tickets go on sale on Tuesday, March 29 at noon PST at www.jmascis.com and www.ticketweb.com . ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Mar 2005 11:18:08 -0600 From: "Brian Huddell" Subject: RE: fegDREAM! Latter-day, as in *after* he jumped the shark? Crap. Here's how it went down. It was an all-acoustic show. Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands (Dylan. with harmonica. he stopped after about 4 minutes and said "I'll finish that tomorrow at Maxwell's.") Glass Hotel (After Glass Hotel, Robyn said "Thank you, fellow clothes-wearers." People started throwing request lists up to the front and yelling out requests. He agreed to play Ghost Ship after warning us that it was long, and prefaced it by telling the sound engineer, "Put a bit of rock-and-roll delay on the voice, if you haven't already.") Ghost Ship (More reading of written requests: "More requests, all from North America! ...Anal Damage City? I've played that already." He prefaced the next song by saying "Most of my songs fall into a divide before 1988 or after 1988, after which I wasn't as much fun, but I gained a bit of depth. Why? Did I fall off my motorbike? Did I change my drugs? Did I fire my manager? I fired my manager!") Surgery Mexican God Trilobite (with a recycled [!!!] intro about a collection of cells insultingly being called one name, like Lisa) She Doesn't Exist (absolutely exquisite) The Crystal Ship (Doors) Mind Games (Lennon) A Man's Gotta Know His Limitations, Briggs At this point, Deni came out. Arms of Love (with harmonica) DeChirico Street (dedicated to Tim Keegan) Radio Storm Sinister But Happy (it took a lot of badgering to get him to play this) Egyptian Cream ("So, people come up to me and say, 'Why do you write songs about sex and death, Mr. Hitchcock?' and I say, 'You're kidding.'") Beautiful Queen (dedicated to Michele) (Robyn and Deni leave. Robyn returns after a few minutes.) Devil's Coachman Queen of Eyes (my request, yay! alternate lyrics: "In the horrible age of decay and abuse, it's good to know someone has got an excuse.") (Deni returns and we all play "Stump the fiddle player." Deni kept up with the following three songs very well, despite never having heard them before. Robyn provided dubious help by advising her before each one of the key changes and telling her, "it's psychedelic.") Gigolo Aunt (Barrett) Rain (Beatles) Waterloo Sunset (Kinks) Song that goes "Everybody knows that Dubya sucks but Rumsfeld is the antichrist." And that's the end! __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Oh dear, I do feel sorry for what must have been a terribly sheltered upbringing... (Assuming you meant "had never played before," the latter two would be pretty easy to follow along with: the progressions are fairly regular, and repeat after their initial runthrough. "Gigolo Aunt," however, has Barrett's usual odd sense of phrasing and weird chords - although this one's more regular than, say, "No Good Trying" or something. - -- ...Jeff The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Mar 2005 10:48:07 EST From: BLATZMAN@aol.com Subject: My Other Life is Waiting (but who knows where...) It's two self-absorbed kids skipping around a maypole, squealing "Look at us, we're freh-ennnds Actually Eb, it's the sound of someone having fun. If you look back at my posts, they were mostly about music and pop culture. Funny you should call someone who peeks in on Fegmania twice a year as self-absorbed. Look dude, I don't know what's wrong with you, but there IS something horribly wrong. Please look back on my posts and point me to the "nauseating pillow talk", or to a post that I wrote that suggested I was self-absorbed (for a brief moment in time, I shared my musical tastes... How often do you do that?). Look Eb, I know a lot more about you than you know about me cause I don't post to this list very often. I used to be a lot more abrasive on this list. Years ago, you might remember me from TV shows such as "I'm the Asshole" and "Here Come the Republicans".... Well, this character name Cappucino showed up on set one day and made me realize that the person I was online was nothing like the person I am offline. I had some lively discussions with Cappy offlist and grew to realize that I was a big part of the problem. And, tuh-duh, I changed my ways and am hopefully less abrasive online. After all, what's the point in bringing people down? I for example just made it clear that I hate Belle & Sebastion, amoung others. I didn't say anything about other people listening to that stuff... You retorted with a "ha ha ha YOU like Journey". Laughing at me because of what I like or dislike.... now THAT'S very playground/maypole. Eb, are you really that person in real life? Are you really that eager to make other people around you feel bad about themselves? I don't think so. I don't think you'd have the guts to say half of what you do to someones face, especially not in that tone of voice. If you did, you'd likely get your ass kicked, and rightfully so I might add. But I just can't believe that you're THAT guy. You should try putting your online character more in line with your real self. Just a suggestion. And Miles, I have to admit, that I was referring to the last James CD Pleased To Meet You... It just seems like yesterday it was released!!!!! Ahhhhhhhh time does fly.... The Tim Booth solo CD isn't as interesting as the last 2 James CDs, but that's just me. I like big POP CDs.
