In the back-cover .jpg included, there's the following notation: rec: sp-cmc-2 > sp-spsb-3 > mz-r700 minidisc mstr: tbs montego ii > cooledit pro > .wav Translation please? I think such notations should also include a list of all drinks consumed, as well as a list of sexual partners actual and potential contemplated or engaged from the beginning of the recording process to the end. Speaking of which, I hope our Rex is okay. Or should I be hoping our Eb is okay? - -- ...Jeff The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 6 Mar 2005 00:33:12 -0800 (PST) From: Jeff Dwarf Subject: Best (or, at least, Most honest) story in News of th Weird this century * In a December Tampa Tribune feature, local Southern Baptist preacher Tom Rives was profiled in his part-time role as KoKoMo the Clown, enthusiastically delivering uplifting spiritual messages to kids and nontraditional church audiences. Said Rives (who estimates he has trained about 400 people for his clown troupes), "I don't think [preachers] should be going around with a Bible tucked under their arms and a scowl on their face." To his critics who say clowning is undignified, Rev. Rives said, "I tell them that all Baptist preachers are clowns. I just went to class and got certified." "I had naively believed all these many years that Americans genuinely believed in freedom of speech. [But I] discovered there that when you made an utterance that was remotely contrary to what the White House was saying, then they attacked you. For a South African the deja vu was frightening. They behaved exactly the same way that used to happen here [during apartheid]: vilifying those who are putting forward a slightly different view." -- Desmond Tutu __________________________________ Celebrate Yahoo!'s 10th Birthday! Anything less than obsessive documentation of the recording media could be construed as signs of having a small unit. > rec: sp-cmc-2 > sp-spsb-3 > mz-r700 minidisc > mstr: tbs montego ii > cooledit pro > .wav > > Translation please? By reputation: If it's one of M's recordings, I've never had a bad one yet. Broad-brush: recorded in the audience on a minidisc, which was later dumped to a PC. Bit more geeky: recorded in the audience on a minidisc using quite nice stereo microphones (with a separate preamp to improve the response), which was later dumped to a PC, which has a "professional" sound card. If you want to geek out even more, have a look at the Sound Porfessionals and Turtle Beach websites. The only thing you need to care about in live recordings (after whether it sounds good) is if it's an audience recording (AUD) or soundboard (SBD). The music's generally clearer in a soundboard recording, but the audience can sound a little distant. There's a huge amount of wank going on in the taper/torrent crowd. I saw a show I recorded (in mono, with a $30 mike) sprout some unlikely heritage about how the torrenter got the signal from the CD-R. They neglected to say that the show was in mono. People merrily downloaded something that 50% of the data was redundant or interpolated by someone's particular CD drive. The format is pretty standard. Recording (rec): the first is the part number of the microphones, the second is the part number of the battery box that powered the mics, and the third is the MD recorder that was used. Mastering (mstr): inputting into the computer, the audio passed through a tbs montego 2 sound card before being edited in cooledit pro into .wav format. On the bright side, last night I got off the first recording on my new Neuros II...a sbd of the absurdly talented Kaki King www.kakiking.com . The good part? No analog transfer on the soundcard (and it took less than 90 seconds to upload to my box). Watch EZT if you're interested. I talking more about George foreman naming all his sons George and daughters some variance of George. Or a guy my brother knew in high school named Jackson Jackson or Jonathan Johnson. Variants of the same name in different language that sound different enough to the ear, (Hamish/James; John/Ian) don't quite count AFAIC.
