It's not as if they're tremendously high quality to start off with, and equally, I encoded them to a fairly exacting standard, adding in a whack of metadata not present in the FLACs. If people feel they have to have that extra bit of signal that you couldn't detect unless you had an $100K audio system in an anechoic chamber, they'll know where to get the FLACs. It's not as if I'm preventing anyone from getting the FLACs by posting these. Stewart ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Feb 2005 18:32:14 -0500 From: "Stewart C. There's nothing about that in the docs, and since it's open source, there's basically feck all anyone can do to control its usage. Oy. That was a particularly bad patch, with Maude being killed the next week -- that they killed her was fine, but the way they did it always irked me -- just have her get into a car accident or something, without the stupid t-shirt at the nascar race shit. That whole season was pretty rancid -- Homer challenging people to duels, he and Mel Gibson butcher "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington," the birth of the octuplets which has really ruined Apu as a character, Homer stiffs PBS, Moe becomes handsome, ..., I don't like that episode, but I dislike it a lot less than a lot of that season. Maybe that's why these last couple seasons don't bother me that much -- I remember it being much worse. > > > That said, it wasn't worse than "Homer v Dignity," > where > > > one of the key punchlines was that Homer was raped by > a > > > panda bear at the zoo, and a Thanksgiving parade > where > > > people were soaked by buckets of chum. If they really want famous people, maybe they should have a return visit from, say, Jessica Lovejoy rather than getting some douche from Dawson's Creek so that Jean or Scully or whoever can impress him daughter. And only do it 4-5 times a season rather than every damn episode. ===== "I had naively believed all these many years that Americans genuinely believed in freedom of speech. Still, Schubas will sell out (ask anybody who had > to drive to Milwaukee last November) so get 'em while they get-able And you know, we greet Illinoisans at the state line by pelting them with rocks and garbage, so it's not as easy as just a 90-mile drive. But that's only in retaliation for Illinois' recently doubling the rates on its tollroads for anyone who lacks an "IPass" - which you can buy in Wisconsin, only they've changed the name by replacing the "I" with a "u," lowercasing the "P," and inserting a hyphen after the "p." Most of the latest stuff is pure dreck, however. I finally gave up hope several months ago when Ralph Wiggum was running in a circle shouting "Duck Duck" (but not "Goose") for almost a minute and a half before fading to the commercial. Homer wasn't the only character that has been changed radically. Marge is now unfunny and annoying. Maggie has become over-babified, i.e. making cute sounds, giggling, etc. instead of being the silent pacifier-sucking Simpson. On another front, animals on the show are becoming increasingly sentient, like the wolves and panthers in that family togetherness training episode. > > . > > > > The cameos have been really poorly done in recent years > > as well. "Mmmm, delicious curd." Second place goes to the annoying judge from American Idol's cameo. Ah well, enough griping.
