She just played rhythm guitar in Belly as well as TM then I take it. I always thought that Vicky Peterson of The Bangles was a pretty decent lead guitar player. The first Bangles album, "All Over The Place" rocks out quiet nicely. I wonder who played lead when she was in the Continental Drifters with Peter Holsapple? Michael B. I'm totally with you regarding Vicki--great player with a distinctive style. Decent lead work on "Different Light" and "Doll Revolution," too (I don't have much good to say about "Everything"). A few seconds of Googling makes it seem like she played occasional lead with the Drifters, but that "official" lead was one Robert Mache. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Jan 2005 10:37:01 -0800 (PST) From: John Barrington Jones Subject: mp3 blogs What mp3 blogs are fegs reading these days?? Amazing.. :) (a minor quibble is that the date should really be 9/5/80 but that has been noted..) http://www.easytree.org/torrents-details.php?id=22130 This is my favorite live Soft Boys show, recorded on the same tour as the Maxwell's gig about a week later. The sound is very good, and there are a lot of interesting covers in the 2nd set. I hope this is new for a lot of you... I got it from a great source years ago, and probably only traded it once or twice, and haven't seen it on too many lists. For the fegmanix. I can't tell you too much about it. It's a pumping, upbeat tempo...the lead singer has a half-spoken snarl which reminds me a bit of Mark E. Smith. And the verse consists of the singer singing a line, and then the band alternates with backing vocals which shout out something like "FRIDAY NIGHT [TRICKS?]." Help? I'll probably d'oh myself when I find out.... Eb ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Jan 2005 02:03:55 -0800 (PST) From: Capuchin Subject: Re: .mpc? Open a terminal and type file /path/to/filename That will tell you what it is. Here's an example from my non-OSX machine (using some wildcards so you can see a few different files): jbrelin@shaft:~$ file P[a-z]* PabloGigante-snapes.jpg: JPEG image data, JFIF standard 1.02, aspect ratio, 100 x 100 Poot Slap.zip: Zip archive data, at least v2.0 to extract Postfix-cyrus-postgreSQL-web-cyradm.pdf: PDF document, version 1.2 So the first is a JPEG, the second a Zip archive and the third a Version 1.2 PDF. Yes, the extensions make that obvious, but the file utility actually looks at the data and determines what's there. I believe it's a Musepack file, which is a compression algorithm based on MPEG that isn't lossless but is still pretty high quality. The cover of Run Run Run is complete classic. No where else can you find a live Strange! I think the copy I have skips on Astronomy Domine... what a great show anyway.
