Nite What a great show! Robyn was the "early" show tonight at Southpaw, so he was on at 8 and off by 9:30, but it was a great set, and nice to see Robyn close to home. I got THREE requests in. Actually, I was bellowing them out from the back, and a couple guys mid-crowd would relay them forward, ie- "CLEAN STEVE....yeah! Clean Steve...Clean Steve"...and Robyn would hear the three-part echo and play it. Also got "Queen Elvis" and "One Long Pair of Eyes" played that way! Robyn was acoustic all night, opening with Dylan's "Visions of Johanna." Early on he did "Bass" which was ironic because that's what we were DRINKING! Other highlights (sorry, I'm bad at remembering setlists verbatim, especially after 4 or 5 Bass) were "Glass Hotel" "Full Moon in my Soul," "1974," "My Wife and My Dead Wife," "Linctus House," a beautiful "Airscape" and the first time I saw Robyn do "Uncorrected Personality Traits" without Andy and Morris beside him. Sprinkle in a Doors and ELvis cover and it made for a great night. We were actually standing next to John Wesley Harding and his wife, but sadly no reprise of of "Ted, Woody and Junior" (done with Wes and Ken Stringfellow at SXSW) was to be, I was hoping for Ted & Woody at least! ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Nov 2004 00:01:20 EST From: DougMash@aol.com Subject: Re: Robyn at Southpaw-Brooklyn Sat. Nite Oh yeah, if anyone has a recording of tonight's show (or the SXSW show with JWH & Stringfellow!), email me to arrange a trade. I'm sure I got some interesting stuff in the closet to deal! Thanks. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Nov 2004 22:04:43 -0800 From: Eb Subject: Re: Robyn at Southpaw-Brooklyn Sat. Nite > Also got "Queen Elvis" played that way! Pedants' Corner: No, that's not "ironic" (unless you're Alanis Morissette) - it's appropriate, or coincidental, or something like that. - -- ++Jeff++ The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com/ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Nov 2004 02:09:50 -0500 From: "Maximilian Lang" Subject: Maxwell's show Long show, roughly 2 1/2 hours. No talking bit's from Robyn of any real length, much like Brooklyn. I managed to end up not recording the last 20+ minutes, I think Woj got it all. I really didn't think he was all that 'on' tonight but he just kept on playing and playing. He did lot's of covers, including three Beatles songs, a Dylan and Kinks as well. He said he is going to be on Janeane Garofalo's show on Tuesday night. I will try to ask him for details tomorrow in Philly.
