True. > ooh, and then there > was the "anyone but bush" push, for instance. yeah that was fucking brilliant on > top of it. the dems got what they deserve. Double-true. The major problem, IMHO, with the Democratic party here and now is the fact that they just have had zero luck choosing candidates. Gore and Kerry (the latter more so than the first) were just poor, poor choices for the top office. Neither had as much charisma as Clinton's big toe. I'm not saying that W does, but he's definitely got more appeal with mainstream America than either of his opponents did. Drunkard and coke jokes aside, who do you think the average American envision sitting down and speaking with more: Bush or Kerry? From day one Kerry has always come across as little more than an empty suit. One of those front-office guys at your company who's occasionally there, but who you haven't the foggiest idea what he does. Nor does anyone else in the office. (In fact, that's probably what a lot of administrative staff at the Senate have been thinking for, what, the past twenty years?) > fuck every republican and democrat, just for being a > republican or a democrat. i wish they would all eat each other. Four words: Middle of the Road. A socially liberal, fiscally conservative candidate would make me excruciatingly happy. The country's getting so polarized now, though, that I fear that anyone who is a centrist (a genuine centrist) would be viewed as being too far left by the right and too far right by the left. - -f. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 08 Nov 2004 08:59:42 -0600 From: Dolph Chaney Subject: Re: Chicago setlist 11-6-04 At 08:27 AM 11/8/2004, Brian wrote: >Were there no balloons? (Mike, how was it he announced "Driving Aloud (Radio Storm)"?) To chime in -- it was fantastic to see him in such a warm, generous spirit. Even on the most-off, foulest-mooded show I like seeing him, but this one was special. And contrary to Mike's initial projection, 10 OUT OF 10 Dolphs agree. I'd never heard his acoustic version of "Winchester" before -- very different, with this rolling drive to it, but effective though in a different way than the spacious version on LINIMENT OF A'IGHT. - -- Dolph ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 8 Nov 2004 11:08:52 -0500 From: bisontentacle Subject: [RobynHitchcockClub] Robyn on the radio in Cleveland! - ----- Forwarded message from HL Raven ----- To: RobynHitchcockClub@yahoogroups.com From: "HL Raven" Date: Mon, 8 Nov 2004 10:56:51 -0500 Subject: [RobynHitchcockClub] Robyn on the radio in Cleveland! Hi guys, This is kinda late because I just found out about it, but if you're in the Cleveland area, on 90.3 WCPN from 12-1 Robyn will be on air (interview I think, not music). I've been told it can also be heard via streaming audio at wcpn.org. Haven't tried this before so don't know how it works, but that's 12-1 EST today, so listen if you can! :) Hyacinthe - ----- End forwarded message ----- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 8 Nov 2004 07:34:48 -0700 From: "Marc Holden" Subject: Matthew on DVD Looks like Matthew Seligman is now on DVD, at least in the UK. The entire Live Aid concert is now available on video. Matthew was in David Bowie's band that day. It was quite enjoyable--like my t-shirt says, "I was there". http://launch.yahoo.com/read/news.asp?contentID=220105 It's weird, but I saw both of Robyn's bass players in Bowie related situations before I had heard of Robyn. I saw Andy Metcalfe in Squeeze, opening for Bowie on the Glass Spider tour. I didn't start to listen to Robyn until the next year, after Globe of Frogs came out. It seems like the West Coast is going to get skipped on Robyn's solo tour. The set lists look great. I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens with the plans for the upcoming band tour. Hope we don't get passed over twice... Later, Marc I wish everybody would have to have an electric thing implanted in our heads that gave us a shock whenever we did something to disobey the president. That was my request for the night, and I was reminded of it by Ferris' Atlanta in-store (I think that's the one) where he says he should have the electric with reverb to do it properly. He had a Tele on stage again, but I'm really glad he did it on the acoustic instead because of that percussive, rolling strum you note...like "Unprotected Love" from the 2002 tour, remember? I've been struck the last few nights by how very *Robyn* the new songs sound on stage. Not from any particular era, but just that they fit him so well and seem natural, seamless...like he's been singing them for years. "Sometimes a Blonde" is utterly haunting live.
