Only had time to play one CD so far, but the sound seems to be OK, remastered by Andrew Loog Oldham (and it really was very cheap at Amazon). I've just checked through the comprehensive looking list of UK singles at and the only queries I have relate to the later stuff: a) 'Memo to Turner' (listed as 'Memo from Turner', no idea why) is included and credited to the Rolling Stones + Ry Cooder on guitar, but is a Jagger solo record, not a Stones record at all. At least, that was how it was released in the UK - Keith disowned the whole 'Performance' project. b) 'Brown Sugar' is included, but not the B-side tracks 'Bitch' and 'Let it rock'. Instead they have put on 'Wild Horses', which I don't think was ever a single. Weird! Maybe something contractual, but I w'd've thought that in that case there would also be a problem with 'Brown Sugar'. Disappointing, but you can't always get what you want. c) 'Child of the Moon' is listed as 'Child of the Moon - rmk'. Any idea what this means? The whole collection is strongly recommended, particularly the 2 CDs covering 1963-68. I've been checking on those UK / US singles differences, and the main one seems to be that they often chose different B-sides at that time, which seems pointless. There are a couple of US B-sides that I'm very familiar with ('Under assistant west coast promotion man' and 'No expectations'). I guess the upstairs bar at the Salamander must have got hold of import copies and put them on the jukebox. Technical query: I can't get Netscape Calendar to run on my new Windows XP office computer. When I try to run it, I get a message "Cannot find UNIAPI32.DLL". I tried to copy this file across from the old machine but the new one won't accept it. Presumably the new Windows system includes some stuff which supersedes this file. According to the following site you can't get Netscape Calendar any more: Q1: Is there a way to get Netscape Calendar running on the new machine? Q2: If not, is there a similar freeware product which will enable me to turn up to lectures and meetings at the correct time? Thanks! - - Mike "why are people always asking boring computer questions on this list?" Godwin n.p. Any idea > what this means? Seems to be a genuine mystery which the Stones kept to themselves. The two most common theories are 1) "remake" and 2) the initials of Allan Klein's daughter. Hey, I just finished that literally 30 minutes ago. I really enjoyed it. I expected it to be a bit more chronological (vol. 1 covering the first third of his life or career and so on) and I think it's strange that he'll have to fill in all those gaps with volumes 2 and 3. If the episodes, feelings, whatever covered in volume 1 had more thematically to do with each other, it would have made more sense, but I thought he was extremely effective in sharing those separate experiences from those times. My main comment wasn't "whuh?" but more of a "How, unless he's kept a pretty detailed journal, does he remember all these minuscule details from 40 years ago?" or a "How much of this is fabricated?" Parts of it seem pretty honest, parts where he's definitely not portraying himself in a heroic or noble way. So I don't think he's conveniently leaving out information or anything, but some of the descriptive details and episodes just seem to neat to be true. The prose actually reminded me a little of Tim O'Brien in parts; he, of course, writes how his biographical accounts of Vietnam are somewhat fictional but that it doesn't really matter in the end. I wonder if Dylan is doing a little of that too. Interesting to read about his many influences, and I came away with a greater appreciation and interest in folk music because of the words he used to describe the songs as he was hearing them for the first time. Nothing too enlightening perhaps, but I thought the book was a fun read. Is Bob Dylan currently married? I know he was divorced in the 70s. I'm not sure I was aware that he remarried... --Shane n.p. And speaking of the curse, whoever reminded me 10 days ago that the curse wouldn't be broken until the Sox won the Series (that is, it would still be there whether or not the Yankees lost), I realized that.
