You could soothe yourself by looking at cute l'il Charles Kittridge Thompson on the cover of his Pixies demos thing that was just released. When I saw there was something called "Frank Black Francis" coming out, I assume it was a best-of spanning his umpteen spotty solo albums. I'm pretty pleased with the reality; I even kind like some of the tracks on the second disc-- his rerecordings of Pixies songs don't sound sacrilegious, they just don't all work. a ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Oct 2004 17:07:20 -0400 (EDT) From: Christopher Gross Subject: Re: Best birthday death? I don't think so. - --Chris (afflicted by an unnatural and repellent post-nasal drip) ______________________________________________________________________ Christopher Gross On the Internet, nobody knows I'm a dog. chrisg@gwu.edu ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Oct 2004 19:52:12 -0400 (EDT) From: Jill Brand Subject: all wrong My kids love to sing "there's a bathroom on the right" to There's A Bad Moon on the Rise. Jill ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Oct 2004 19:40:25 -0700 From: "Natalie Jacobs" Subject: birthday disasters; actual Robyn content Hmm... the most major disaster I could spot on my birthday (September 27th) was 5,000 people in Japan dying as the result of a typhoon in 1959. I feel rather inferior now. Although I guess that Meatloaf's birth counts as a disaster. Also, the bassist from Metallica died, as did my grandfather's favorite author, Ring Lardner. A Canadian cyclist named Clara Hughes was born the same day AND year, making her my astrological twin. I don't know who she is, though. The most intriguing entry, however, is this: Grace (uncertain - September 27, 1722) was an Irish woman. She was known to have been a victim from a Dobhar-chu; a dangerous cryptozoological animal. Her tomb tells her final hours: On September 27, 1722, a woman named Grace was killed by a Dobhar-chu, while washing clothes in Glenade Lake. When her husband came to find her, he found instead a Dobhar-chu sitting on her bloody clothes and mutilated body. He killed the beast, stabbing it in the heart. As it died, it made a noise like a whistle. It's supposed mate rose from the water and chased the man and his friend. They killed it before it got the chance to hurt either man. The Dobhar-chu is a water-dog of Irish folklore or a cryptid. It lived in the water and had fur with protective properties. The Kinlough Stone is the headstone of a grave of a woman killed by the Dobhar-chu. On the Kinlough Stone is an old drawing of the creature. It is believed that the Dobhar-chu is really the King Otter. Anyway, as for the Robyn content (as if the Dobhar-chu wasn't enough) - I listened to "If You Know Time" on the Yeproc site last night, and thought it was very good. Then I wondered if I had been wrong to dismiss "Television" so hastily, so I listened to it again, and decided I had not been wrong. (Bing-a-bing-a-fucking-bing-bong, my ass...) So now I don't know whether to buy "Spooked" or not. What to do, what to do... n. _________________________________________________________________ Dont just search. Find. I could go into the question of whether that mayhem should be counted on the day the episode aired or the day on which the story is supposed to take place; but I seem to have somehow, inexplicably, developed a reputation as someone who posts obsessively about Buffy and Angel, so maybe I should just leave it there. - --Chris "Mist ... cemetary ...
