It was like he was saying "this is *really* meaningful, man!" instead of just singing the damn lyrics and letting us decide for ourselves if we were moved. If I make some headway there, the next move would likely be to try Auckland but that's a way away yet. I suppose the US equivalent would be a Providence RI artist trying to break Boston before NY, or in the UK someone from Preston trying to get Manchester interested before trying London. Before I go (back on Wednesday evening, BTW), here's something I noticed while looking through a book of saints: The seven sleepers of Ephesus were, according to legend, early Christians who were walled up in a cave during the persecution of Decius. God put them to sleep, and when they woke 200 years later, they discovered that their city had converted to Christianity. They look extremely tired to me. Bobby Ewing appearing alive (as alive as the Man from Atlantis ever got, anyway) and well in the shower on DALLAS was a hundred times less stupid than that ending. But the whole final season of ST. ELSEWHERE was pretty much a waste, where new writers turned all the characters into caricatures of themselves. See also the final seasons of another at-first-cool Falsey/Brand show, NORTHERN EXPOSURE. If they ever have another TV series, I'd have to question whether I should start watching it, since they're just going to turn it over to hacks at the end. later, Miles ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 04 Oct 2004 11:45:52 +0100 From: "Matt Sewell" Subject: RE: Free music, as in beer Heh - The Jennifers - that rings a bell... it's actually what Supergrass used to be called.
