Then I realized that the only Canadian artists that I like are Neil Young and Hot Hot Heat (sorry, no Rush). It seems like much of the Canadian stuff I've heard - not including mainstream pap - is happy jingle-jangle power-pop like Sloan or the New Pornographers, which I can't stand. Also, a Canadian band (Destroyer) was responsible for one of the worst shows I've ever been to. You guys know my tastes pretty well at this point - can you suggest some Canadian bands I might actually like? I know there must be something out there... it's a big country... (I just remembered that I'd probably like the Sadies, so there's a start...) Comment: I've come to the conclusion, over the last few days, that I would rather shoot myself in the head than hear Robyn singing "Bing-a-bong-a-bing-bong," ever again. your pal, n. _________________________________________________________________ FREE pop-up blocking with the new MSN Toolbar get it now! http://toolbar.msn.click-url.com/go/onm00200415ave/direct/01/ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Sep 2004 15:45:52 -0400 From: fingerpuppets Subject: Re: robyn minneapolis tickets on sale wednesday contact jason at fegmania@bowwowmeowmeow.com if you want to take him up on his ticket-buying offer. please do not reply to me -- i don't live anywhere near mpls! ;) woj - ----- Forwarded message from Jason Koffman ----- Date: Mon, 13 Sep 2004 12:59:36 -0500 From: "Jason Koffman" To: "fingerpuppets" Subject: Re: robyn minneapolis tickets on sale wednesday According to First Avenue's website, advance tickets will only be $7, and $10 at the door. http://www.first-avenue.com/Calendar.htm/beyond.htm Avoid Ticketbastard and all of their service charges by buying tickets at any of these locations: http://www.first-avenue.com/tickets/ticketsOne.htm Or go directly to the club (excluding office hours) and pick 'em up there. I don't think it has to *that* close. I've noticed that nearly all of my homeburned CDs of actual albums (all legit, Officer - from eMusic, really!) are readily recognized - the only exceptions are when I purposely tack a contemporaneous EP or single at the end of an album, thereby creating an entity that didn't rpeviously exist. I didn't know about the iTunes thing...but then, I never let iTunes burn a whole CD for me. Because I can't have it home, but I do have it at work, I'll put the .wavs on a CD-RW, bring it home, and then burn my own, permanent CD. I've noticed the levels suck, so I change those first. Then, I've never DL'd a whole album from iTunes - why bother, when it costs nearly as much as the real thing? I've only ever DL'd individual songs - such as, for instance, the highly recommended (except to people who think The New Pornographers are happy, jingle-jangle shit ;) A.C. Newman single, "Homemade Bombs in the Afternoon," or Andy Partridge's "Wonderfalls" theme song. In the case of _Time Fades Away_, yeah, probably: somebody burned a copy and submitted it CDDB. The problem arises in the conflict between wanting to distribute labor/include customer input (i.e., allowing people to submit CDs) and the need for accuracy. I've never checked on this...do rampantly inaccurate CD listings disappear ever? The other annoying thing (there's only one, really!) is the increasing dominance of AMG in blurb-suppliage. Seems every online site quotes their reviews...and what's worse, their track-listing errors.
