No, but while we're talking LA, the Sunset Junction Street Fair has just announced its lineup. One day features my neighbor's band; the other day: Love, Camper Van Beethoven, and X. Sounds like $10 well spent... Oh, I didn't mention, did I? My neighbor's band is also on a Kerry benefit show with Kristin Hersh, John Doe, and Grant Lee Phillips on Tuesday. Yeesh. It's one thing for the guy to have, like, a successful band for me to envy... and a whole 'nother thing to open for Kristin. Guess I need to... try harder to have a good band? I also remember him playing selections from *Absolutely Free* to a thoroughly confused classroom. This was in Mississippi, folks, and he still has his job! I can't say he changed my musical tastes, because I was already there, but he sure gave me hope for the world of adults. +brian in New Orleans ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 6 Aug 2004 16:11:06 -0700 (PDT) From: Jeff Dwarf Subject: Re: Reap, Bitch (corrected subject) Mike Swedene wrote: > Rick James When my brother was working hauling rented instruments around in LA -- for tv show appearances or rehearsals by musicians who didn't live in La or whatever -- Rick James was the biggest asshole of all the people he met, and it wasn't even close. President Bush said the other day, 'It is a ridiculous notion to assert that because the United States is on the offensive, more people want to hurt us. We are on the offensive because people do want to hurt us.' I mean that is a perfect 'Bushworld' quote. It's not true and it's nonsensical. It's the opposite of what is true. I am a subscriber. Second, in the new issue -- with Julia Roberts on the cover -- there's a small "sidebar box" featuring Robyn, with a nice picture and a few quotes regarding "The Manchurian Candidate." (Page 12.) Although the writer mentions "balloon Man," she happily does not use the word "quirky." The only real "meat" is: 'Hitchcock's open to more movie gigs, but says the parts are limited: "Brits tend to be uncles, butlers, and villains," he says. "We're either very wise and reassuring, or slightly gay. I don't know why." ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 07 Aug 2004 14:51:10 -0700 From: "Natalie Jane" Subject: Robyn tribute...? I saw the Decemberists last night (again) - thery were great, as usual - and their guitarist said that the band is recording a cover of "Lady Waters" for a forthcoming Robyn tribute. I see no word of this tribute on woj's site or the official site... has anyone else heard anything about this? I think "Lady Waters" is a perfect choice for the Decemberists. n. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Get ready for school!
