I have a bunch of pics I borrowed from an old friend from back in our goth days in the 80s which I had never seen before. I am going to scan these to keep for archiving. I'll put them all on a CD or something to keep as TIFFs, and later do what I want with them. Is a reasonable resolution something like 2300x1600? In my Agfa software that came with the scanner, it sets the DPI at 470 for this size, which come out to almost 11 megs each. Should I change any of this? Later on I will want to probably print some out and other stuff. Thanks. - -Ken ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 May 2004 17:29:56 -0500 From: "Fortissimo" Subject: Re: Hell, I'll contribute five bucks... ;) On Fri, 28 May 2004 20:57:03 -0700, "Tom Clark" said: > On May 28, 2004, at 3:08 PM, Eb wrote: > > > Watching that audience of young white kids, clapping in rhythm above > > their heads through the whole show, solemnly swaying their hands or > > holding up lighters during slow songs...silently mouthing lyrics with > > reverent guilelessness...straining to clutch Stipe when he moved > > forward to the edge of the crowd.... I certainly hope no one here is actually judging a band's music by the character of its fans. That would be, well, not very bright. (Obviously, I still find things to like in recent R.E.M....adn before anyone asks, yeah, I bought _Chronic Town_ before _Murmur_ came out.) - ------------------------------- ...Jeff J e f f r e y N o r m a n The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com/ :: Solipsism is its own reward :: :: --Crow T. Whew. Wakeup call. Phew, I coulda told you that after seeing them last year... One of the highlights was standing directly behind one of those dudes who spent the whole time with his arm around his entirely passive girlfriend, roughly jerking her back and forth in time to the music while he made "rock" gestures with his free hand. Seeing the soccer mom next to us FREAKING OUT to "It's the End of the World" was also rather entertaining.... n. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Is your PC infected? I recently won an auction for a "brand new, sealed" DVD of the film Pygmalion (193? with Leslie Howard and Wendy Hiller). When I received it, I realized that it was subtitled in Chinese and that the sound was out of synch with the movement of lips. I looked at further auctions by this seller, and realized that this is probably a business in Hong Kong sending out what I think are bootlegged films copied to DVD. I can't quite figure out how to tell e-bay about this. I remember someone on the list once talking about being an e-bay 'watcher' of sorts. Any suggestions on how I can tell e-bay that this business is probably selling Chinese knock-offs of copywritten movies? He'll be 11, is tall and lanky (if that matters??). We can rent him a saxophone for about $30/month but I'm looking on ebay and I see saxophones for sale for less than $300. I know nothing about instruments--would it be a waste to buy one online? If not, what are good brands, what should I look for? Any assistance would be really, really appreciated!! Cox died on Saturday at his home in Brooksville, Maine, his wife, Phyllis, said. In what came to be billed as "the Saturday Night Massacre," Nixon in October 1973 ordered the removal of Cox, who had been seeking access to White House audiotapes involving discussions about Watergate. Attorney General Elliot Richardson and Deputy Attorney General William Ruckelshaus resigned rather than carry out the order. Cox was finally fired by Solicitor General Robert Bork, whose nomination for the U.S. Supreme Court (news - web sites) more than a decade later was rejected by the Senate. Cox's ouster aroused widespread anger, even among Nixon's fellow Republicans. The president was later forced to relinquish the tapes and resigned in August 1974 after the beginning of impeachment proceedings tied to the 1972 break-in at Democratic headquarters at the Watergate building in Washington and subsequent cover-up. Cox, a former Harvard law professor, had been appointed as the first Watergate special prosecutor in May 1973 by Richardson, his former student. Cox also served as solicitor general under President John F. Kennedy. Cox's death came the same day as that of Samuel Dash, another prominent Watergate investigator. Dash died in Washington, aged 79, his daughter Judi Dash said. ===== "Life is just a series of dogs." -- George Carlin "I'm going to keep playing music until somebody shoots me." -- Scott McCaughey __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
