The documents being issued all across Massachusetts may say 'marriage license' at the top but they are really death certificates for the institution of marriage as it has served society for thousands of years. - James Dobson, Focus on the Family ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 May 2004 15:08:43 -0700 From: Eb Subject: Re: Hell, I'll contribute five bucks... ;) I don't think I'll ever see a "Goth" again, without thinking of that poor South Park gothkid with the tic of unconsciously flipping his hair-wing out of his eye. Lordy, that characterization was just *perfect*. Speaking of misfits, I recently got to see a R.E.M. concert "freeview" on DirecTV. I believe the concert took place during 2003 (I didn't catch the location) and the setlist was uncomfortably pandering, as far as playing almost Nuttin' but the Hits. Watching that audience of young white kids, clapping in rhythm above their heads through the whole show, solemnly swaying their hands or holding up lighters during slow songs...silently mouthing lyrics with reverent guilelessness...straining to clutch Stipe when he moved forward to the edge of the crowd.... I have never been so brutally struck with the realization that it's not cool to be a R.E.M. fan anymore. Whew. Wakeup call. Bush has failed America. In 2001 President Bush used the horrible events of September 11 to push through an agenda serving his neoconservative masters, no matter what the cost. The result has been the biggest debt in the nation's history and the greatest alienation of the U.S. from its allies since the Revolutionary War. To make matters worse, George W. Bush is a flatulent arrogant pussbag, a lying sack of horseshit, and an assfaced ignorant fuckhead. Next November, save America...from another four years of a dickhead President with the total combined intelligence of a wet sock and a mud brick. Don't be an asshole...vote Democrat in 2004. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 May 2004 20:57:03 -0700 From: Tom Clark Subject: Re: Hell, I'll contribute five bucks... ;) On May 28, 2004, at 3:08 PM, Eb wrote: > Watching that audience of young white kids, clapping in rhythm above > their heads through the whole show, solemnly swaying their hands or > holding up lighters during slow songs...silently mouthing lyrics with > reverent guilelessness...straining to clutch Stipe when he moved > forward to the edge of the crowd.... Got to see Mike Mangini(he holds the record for the most strokes per minute - matched grip) and Stu Hamm(bassist extraordinaire) in clinic here in Portland, Maine. Mike Mangini is a contemporary of Steve Vai(of Frank Zappa fame) and Stu Hamm is most associated with Joe Satriani(anyone remember "Surfing with the Alien?). Killer clinic. Very down to earth guys who were happy to answer questions about music, playing, and the biz. Probably get flamed for posting this here but wtf. 80's metal geeks unite! Friends. Fun. You guys are so freakin' knowledgable, maybe you know the answer... A guy sent me a bunch of Jim O'Rourke recordings, one of which seems to be a radio session from some European country - I can't make out the language that the announcer is speaking in, but I could pick out a song title... something like "Silhouette of a Mole." The chorus goes, "Your silhouette, out from the rain" and it's all about a mole (I guess) who toils underground. It has a very twee, British psychedelic sound to it... sorta Barrett-era Pink Floyd or Incredible String Band. I'm fairly sure it's a cover and not an O'Rourke original, and I can't find it in All-Music Guide. The guy who sent it to me doesn't know what it is, either. Can anyone help? It's keeping me up at night, wondering... thank you ever so, n. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Best Restaurant Giveaway Ever!
