Morning Fegs Now then, flushed with success regarding a CD copy of TNOTBITH by Talking Heads, I'm now seeking a much-harder-to-find gem in the same format. I was round at Psychedelic Terry's last night and, among many other classics, he was playing me his terribly-scratched-up copy of The Paupers' Ellis Island. If any of ye Fegs have this burnably then I have a choice of TWO (count 'em) TWO living grandmothers or my hopefully-not-yet-conceived firstborn, or a whole load of great stuff I can send... so please... PLEASE... Cheers Matt - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Have more fun with your phone - download ringtones, logos, screensavers, games & more. Yep, I was there (and my wife, too). First, I have to apologize for not posting earlier. I haven't posted in probably 2-3 years now. I really don't read the digest all that frequently either. I suck. The show was one of the most mellow RH/Largo gigs I have seen. Robyn only played an electric guitar on 2 or 3 songs. Highlights: - -Started '8 Miles High' and transformed it into 'Cheese Alarm' (acoustic guitar). - -Did 'Listening To The Higsons' (acoustic guitar) which had 'Staying Alive' played in the middle of the song. Jon Brion played some sort of smaller sized acoustic guitar). - -"The Man Who Invented Himself" - in one word, WILD. Jon sat behind the drum kit and pounded out a rhythm. He got up from the kit, and the rhythm continued to play. He created a 'live' drum loop on stage. Robyn went to the piano, an placed a viking helmet (complete with horns) on his head. He told Jon to play the saxophone part, which he did - on electric guitar. Robyn banged out a great rendition of TMWIH. - -"Tomorrow Never Knows" - After the first set, they both took a break. Eventually, Jon got up on stage, and sat behind the drum kit. Again he made another loop. Then he went over to the piano and made another loop on top of the drum loop. Then he went to the electric guitar and used a slide to make what can be best described as seagull noises. That was the clue that it was TNK. After that loop was added, he motioned for RH to join him. Robyn picked up the electric guitar and started singing TNK. This was pretty cool to see its construction, but it grew tiresome after about 4 minutes. I think they played another 5 or 6 minutes. Too Long. - -More covers "Main Thing", 2 syd barret songs, & Dear Prudence. - -'Uncorrected Personality Traits' was a real treat to hear. It was NOT done accapella. It was done in a country-western vibe. With Robyn & Jon on acoustic guitars. - -One new song he called "The Flannagan Song". It can be found on the Largo website www.largo-la.com where it is labled as "I'm Going Home". - -The last highlight would be Jon Brion. He is a witch (I mean that in the best possible way). When he played guitar, he had his eyes closed the entire time, just listening to Robyn for his cues. Sometimes he used an e-bow on the acoustic. He also used a vocoder to accompany "Vegetation and Dimes". It was nice to see Robyn do mostly Robyn songs. Sorry for the rambling list. I do not have a setlist. I know that someone does, because I saw them writing and taking pictures of Robyn wearing the Viking helmet. cheers.... - -griffith np - deathcabforcutie ===== - --------------------------------------------------------- Griffith Davies hbrtv219@yahoo.com __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Wha-huh? I was under the impression that this had *never* been released on CD. What, was it out for five minutes at some point? Reading the blog on the band's web site, it appears the singer has taken quite ill. Anyone who hasn't heard of the band (read: most everyone), they are a bit of a pop-ier St. Etienne, only a duo rather than trio. I managed to see them in Manhattan once when they opened for another band. (Cinerama, perhaps?!?). Anyway, while I never spoke to the singer, Amy, the keyboardist was incredibly nice. From the site: - --- Thanks for your concern over Amys health. All correspondence can be directed to Amy Dykes PO BOX 829 Athens, GA 30603. 4/24/04: Amy was taken to the Emergency room at Fair Oaks Hospital in Farifax, VA with swelling of her face and neck. I am the World Trade Center was on tour and Amys face and neck were swelling. When she said she was having trouble breathing, Dan immediately took her from their Hotel near DC to the Hospital. 4/25/04: After preliminary tests, it was found that there was an unidentified mass in her chest. She was admitted to the Fair Oaks Telemetry wing for further testing. After several painful tests, it was revealed that the mass was a tumor and samples were sent to pathology for a diagnosis. Amy was put on steroids and antibiotics. She was also determined to be extremely anemic and was given two units of blood to restore her blood count. 4/26/04: This was a day of waiting for test results. 4/27/04: After a couple of long days waiting, early suspicions were confirmed and Amy was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma; cancer of the Lymphatic System. You can learn more at http://www.lymphomainfo.net/hodgkins/. We dont know what stage she is at yet and are waiting for further results. Amy and Dan are leaving for Athens today where Amy will begin Chemotherapy. 4/28/04: We arrived in Athens today. Amy has an appointment with an Oncologist on Friday morning. 4/29/04: After looking at her files, the doctor decided Amy had to come in today. Amy had many tests and prepared for chemotherapy which will start tomorrow. She had another bone marrow biopsy and it was really painful. She had too many needles stuck in her and is in great pain. They installed a medport to administer her chemo therapy medication. ------------------------------ End of fegmaniax-digest V13 #123 ********************************
