Re: The Opposite of a Pistol: Astute geekery from all. For my money, "hospital" is too abstract... I would say the opposite of and *instrument* of death would be either: (A) an instrument of resurrection. Can't think of one outside of fictional devices or dicey religious claims. (B) an instrument of healing. Tricky because many of them (scalpel, etc.) have destructive uses as well. Perhaps "medicine"... not the big abstract idea, but something taken in a particular dosage. (C) an instrument of birth. So I submit as a Sex Pistols antithesis: The Abstinence Vaginas. Fronted by Johnny Frehsness, they're the founding fathers of Knup Rock in the Mirror Universe. I had been holding off on listening to them, partly because I was afraid I might like them enough to pick up quite a bit of their back catalogue, as I'm a bit prone to do. I'm pretty much caught up with Zappa and the Residents, so there might be a bit of my music budget available for checking into them, unless the rumours of another series of Kinks re-issues turn out to be true. I'll have to check the bonus tracks... Later today, I get to trade in my tickets for the cancelled Wilco show in Tucson for tickets to the Shins/Fiery Furnaces, also at the Rialto. I'm really hoping that Wilco will reschedule later in the year. Marc The fact of the matter is, I'm fucking brilliant. Not 'was' brilliant. 'Am' brilliant. That may well be. Who serves you these days? I'll tell you that I LOVE Speakeasy for just about every aspect of their service. When I DO get USENET, it runs around 160KBps which rocks so uncontrollably that I sometimes I have to warn my neighbors that the ruckus is just my rockin' ISP (about the only two things that max out my downstream bandwidth are USENET and Debian updates... otherwise, the other guy is always the bottleneck). But the quota stinks. I considered paying extra for superior USENET service, but the price just isn't attractive. LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Brian Wilson's first new studio album in six years, "Gettin' in Over My Head," will be released by Warner Music Group's Rhino Records on June 22. The 61-year-old former Beach Boy recently resurrected and finished his legendary "Smile" sessions, which he debuted live in the United Kingdom. Wilson is expected to tour Europe in the summer in support of "Gettin' in Over My Head" and possibly bring the "Smile" concert to the United States in the fall. He is currently in the studio working on the final version of "Smile," which will likely also be released through Warner. "Gettin' in Over My Head" features guest appearances by Eric Clapton, Elton John Van Dyke Parks and Paul McCartney. The album also includes a duet with his late brother Carl Wilson titled "Soul Searchin'." "Gettin' in Over My Head" features a number songs which Wilson had worked on earlier but had not yet completed, including the title track and "Desert Drive," which are culled from his mid-1990s collaboration with producer Andy Paley. Wilson's last studio album was 1998's "Imagination."
