Yep, I got it. It features some of the best photos of Robyn I've seen in a long time -- he's wearing a silk top hat, a wool cape, and looks very cool. Most of the interview was a rehash, but Robyn did mention that his next album will be released in March, and that Jon Brion's producing it. Yay. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Feb 2004 11:40:25 -0500 (EST) From: "Jonathan Fetter" Subject: Re: Life After Death on the Riviera The Chinese have (or had, don't know if it's still done) a custom of marrying the dead. The parents of a child that died unmarried will put some money out in the street, hide, and then whoever picks it up will be their ghost kid's spouse. No heavy obligation for the spouse, just some trips to a temple to pray for the deceased, but still people are hesitant to pick up money off the street over there. Excellent news! With Brion at the controls there are sure to be lots of electrified instruments. The way a Robyn album should be. Btw, Jon's girlfriend sure is getting a lot of face time on "24" recently. There is sure to be some other odd twist involving her character. - -tc ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Feb 2004 18:35:31 +0000 (GMT) From: crowbar.joe@btopenworld.com Subject: Year Of The What? >My biggest complaint about the Grammys show this year was that >it was far >too focused on the historical, rather than any innovations or >new voices in >the past year in music. That's as maybe, but 2003 was officially Year Of The Blues, and beyond White Stripes and BB the blues didn't seem to get much of a shout. The band are already confirmed to appear at this year's Coachella festival in California. The tour will be their first since 1993. A spokesman for the band remarked that details are yet to be finalised, but told reporters: "For a long time, it was far from certain that this would actually happen. However, you may be interested to learn that, at last, the reunion has been confirmed. Their booking agents have been confirming shows with promoters over the last few days." The Pixies are expected to play a series of warm up shows prior to Coachella, probably in Canada. Other festival appearances have been rumoured, including Glastonbury and T in the Park, as well as a possible support slot on the Red Hot Chili Peppers' European tour this summer. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Feb 2004 23:41:37 -0500 From: "Christopher Carville" Subject: Soft Boys 1/16/03 Chiari, Italy bit torrent at sharingthegroove Here is another excellent sounding show for you all: Soft Boys Chiari, Italy 1/16/03 soundboard recording > ? > cdr > eac > shn (likely DAT sbd recording) cd1 I Love Lucy Hear My Brane Tonight Kingdom Of Love Queen Of Eyes My Mind Is Connected... First, it was, "Malachi Favors died? Fuck!" Then, "Jon produced a whole Robyn Hitchcock album and I had no clue? Man, living out of town sucks." Then Tom said: > Btw, Jon's girlfriend sure is getting a lot of face time on "24" > recently. > There is sure to be some other odd twist involving her character. ... and it was "Jon's girlfriend is on 24? Wait... Jon has a girlfriend? Damn, we are *totally* out of the loop!" Then I did 5 seconds' worth of research and realized it was Jon's former girlfriend. (I'm happy to see she's getting some high-profile work, though - I think she's great.) Even with that information, I'm still all homesick now. Oh well. On the Bands Reunited thread: I don't have any new or interesting ideas to offer, so I'll content myself with shooting down other people's. I'm quite certain I've seen Men at Work gigs listed in the last few years (although it may just have been Colin Hay and that dude who looked like Frasier & Niles's brother), and Wall of Voodoo guitarist Marc Moreland died in 2002 so they're probably out.
