Best animation I've seen in a long time; it's edging out "Spirited Away" for me. Fabulous score, and many wonderful tips o' the beret to C20th French popular culture. The Belleville residents look like refugees from The Quigmans. The structural gangsters in their 2CV limos are both menacing and comic. Oh yeah, and stay for the end of the credits. Wilco and the Cure are confirmed, as well as the previously stated Pixies, Radiohead, and Kraftwerk. The Flaming Lips were off and seem to be back on now according to the band website. It could shape up into something pretty worthwhile. http://www.coachella.com/main.html additionally--Has anyone heard how the Fiery Furnaces are live? I liked their CD (a lot) and have a chance to see them in Tucson on Wednesday, if I feel like making the drive down there after work. To me, they sound like a mixture of the Velvet Underground, Pretenders, and White Stripes. I'd like to hear more from them in the future and really hope the drive is worth it. Hence the delay. >additionally--Has anyone heard how the Fiery Furnaces are live? Eb ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 1 Feb 2004 20:58:30 -0700 From: "Marc Holden" Subject: if you really have a lot of time for something kind of silly... I liked the fact that they played clips of songs from the targeted artists. (Soft Boys--Kingdom of Love, Unprotected Love, Positive Vibrations), (RH &tE--My Wife and My Dead Wife, Radio Storm, Flesh Number One, So You Think You're in Love), but the clips take a long time to link up. I left it on in the background as I did paperwork, and it was kind of interesting. Every few minutes, I'd get a short sound sample. The links between bands are kind of weird. So I assume you're saying they just went with Keith? I've taped the Squeeze and Alarm ones but only saw a bit of the Alarm one. Dave Sharpe is a tosspot! Came across as a real arrogant SoB. As for Squeeze, I don't think I was aware there was bad feeling in any of their lineup changes. Guess I'll have to watch. Macdonald seemed like a really nice guy to. Peters and Sharp, erm, not so much. > > When Squeeze last toured, the band wasn't the > > original, or the original as VH1 figured it. Wilkinson is the bassist they go after for the show, presumably because he was the bassist the longest and he was easier to find than either Kakouli or Bentley. A minor cheat. The one problem I had is that it's probably really hard to say "no" with the cameras etc right there. Which is why I assume..... spoiler space.... "If It's Love" and "Take Me I'm Yours" are really underappreciated Squeeze songs as far as I'm concerned you have a situation where Tilbrook ended up backing out. It seemed Jools Holland was not really interested and trying to be as tactful as possible in saying so. But if you just say "no, I really don't want to do it," you end up looking like a dickhead. It's a great idea for a show, and I'm not sure how you get around that problem though. > As for Squeeze, I don't think I was aware there was > bad feeling in any of their lineup changes.
