I thought it was actually kind of heartwarming (I'm a sap). I haven't seen the Squeeze episode yet, but I've got to think "what's the point?" Didn't they last tour a few years ago? In other news: It's a 14Meg download, but a very funny example of when you really should call a professional. - -tc ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Jan 2004 17:32:06 -0800 From: "Rex.Broome" Subject: One, but we're not the same Matt: >>I feel your pain - I loved my beard, but Chrissy was one of the only >>people without much positive to say on the subject - I'm now clean >>shaven and *forbidden* to grow another! The wife basically approved of the facial hair I had when I had it, but was okay (sort of lukewarm, but okay) when I lost it. Most folks though it was kind of cool when I had it, but also that I looked a good deal younger without it, which was really secretly because I lost, like, forty pounds while it was distracting people. Got a haircut a few weeks back where I actually for once took a proactive stance on what it should look like, and I got a few more "five years younger" comments, so taken together... early twenties, here I come again! With crow's feet and the occasional grey hair, but what the hell! Okay, sometimes you see something in your own posts that makes you go "d'oh", and here's something that I said to JeFF: >>Actually, the most painful examples are always the ones on your own >>rehearsal tapes... ...which might have been seriously misread since I in some ways have heard some of Jeff's actual "rehearsal" tapes. So I must clarify: where I wrote "your own rehearsal tapes", I should have written "one's own rehearsal tapes"... the point being that one's own band's inane arguments are inevitable the most painful to oneself, and god help one if it gets recorded and one stumbles across it years later. So I just checked and obviously it's *Martin* Freeman, not *Morgan* Freeman as I thought I read earlier in the Times, who has been cast alongside Mos Def in what I was thinking was rapidly becoming the "Mo' Betta Hitchhika's Guide 2 tha Galaxy an' Whatnot". I'm all for colorblind casting, but that was starting to sound like it was going in, err, a direction somewhat different from the books. Zooey Deschanel as Trillian... that's not especially a bad thing. Please do note, however, that Director Garth Jennings' sole previous credit on the IMDB is title design on "Ali G Show, Da". So now when someone asks you, "Hey, is 'da' a legitimate definite article?" you can reply that the IMDB certainly seems to think so. - -Rex ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Jan 2004 21:18:35 -0500 (EST) From: Jill Brand Subject: Ignatius R. I would rather see someone like John C. Reilly take the role (he's got the right last name for it). God, it's been 23 years since I read that book and I still remember certain scenes in their entirety (and whenever I see a big bus, the word 'Scenicruiser' flashes through my mind). Ah crap! I set the vcr for 1 hr after the show! Blast it! I'll wait for a repeat. And yes, from 1987 onward it seemed like Squeeze regrouped every other year. I think it's been since 1999 since they toured. Oh where's Daryl? Surprised I recognized a few of the songs (before the only Berlin songs I thought I knew were "Metro," "Sex," and "Tom Cruise, Hunky Fighter Pilot"). The shot of Terri Nunn and the guy who wrote all the songs seeing each other for the first time in aeons _was_ really touching. > I haven't seen the > Squeeze episode yet, but I've got to think "what's the > point?" But only Difford and Tilbrook were in that edition of Squeeze; the conceit of the show is they are going after the original line-ups, so you would need to round up Jools Holland, Gilson Lavis, and Harry Kakoulli. > In other news: > > > It's a 14Meg download, but a very funny example of when > you really should call a professional. Both Keith Wilkinson and Gilson Lavis were replaced by Pete Thomas and Hilaire Belloc. Chris Holland played most dates instead of Jools, so really only Glenn and Chris were Squeeze members of that version of the band. I won't spoil the VH1 show for those who haven't seen it. To be fair to these guys, they run seminars for Christians (mostly kids, I think) to show them that they're not Biblical enough. It *is* part of the Jesus Industry, but certainly less iffy than Scientology. (We're talking degrees here). This bunch is on Point of View now and again and I caught on to their test this week when the local NPR station had two hours with a writing coach. (It's pledge break again and she's popular with the correct demographic). They're evidently unhappy because only a small percent of the people in a recent George Barna survey have the correct Christian worldview . - - Steve __________ Pat Robertson's resignation this month as president of the Christian Coalition confirmed the ascendance of a new leader of the religious right in America: George W.
