Must have been the points for knowing things like Jello Biafra (and his real name) and having been in a mosh pit and pogoing... Ya know, I was sitting back, listening to James Taylor, thinking of Old Testament Biblical tortures for Saddam Hussein, cooking a veal and whale dinner (heavy on the bourbon) and realized that I hadn't posted a Buone Feste to you all on the list. So there is it - Buone Feste, Happy Solstice, whatever your creed is. I can't speak to Carrie's post in particular, but that year (and near that date) are VERY common when there are time problems and unix systems are involved. See, unix uses epoch time which is seconds since the last epoch marker. The epoch marker is Dec 31, 1969. So if the time reported by her system to her mail server was interpreted as seconds since epoch and the number wasn't the size of a real epoch time these days, she'd probably get a timestamp in the year 1970. It's sorta like the Y2K thing, I guess... but you can have negative epoch timestamps. I'm not sure how you deal with things that are +/- 2^31 seconds (I assume there's a bit for sign) from epoch. But surely we'll have better computer architectures by then and it'll be at least 2^63 seconds.
