I used to have to wear one as part of a group uniform, along with dead white face make-up and compulsory ironing of white shirt before every show. He was a promoter but I don't think he was Ward. In the last decade I've only met two people from my Bristol days. One I met twice at the Soft Boys shows, the other I encountered outside the Red Lion at Avebury on the last solstice. I've been musing on the dead singer thread. AC/DC is a hard example to follow, (to my limited listening experience)they didn't need to change their sound much to accomodate the change and also brought in a new singer. Someone mentioned Pink Floyd, they survived the departure of Syd by moving the vocal responsibility and by changing their musical direction - more analogous to Genesis losing Gabriel. No mention was made of Joy Division/New Order which a pretty much the same band revived without Curtis. The Grateful Dead survived the loss of Pig Pen who was to my mind their best vocalist but only by sinking into the Godchaux era. More importantly Arthur Lee and Love are billed to appear on Later this evening BBC 11:35 pm - 12:35 Enjoying the US tour posts, shame there's no UK dates yet. Ian Anderson made the remarks in an interview published Sunday in the Asbury Park Press. "I hate to see the American flag hanging out of every bloody station wagon, out of every SUV, every little Midwestern house in some residential area," Anderson was quoted as saying. "It's easy to confuse patriotism with nationalism. Flag waving ain't gonna do it." The verdict from listeners of WCHR-FM's "Free Beer and Hot Wings" morning show was swift. "The reaction of our audience has been 99 percent in favor of the ban and 99 percent incredulous that he would say such stupid things," said Phil LoCascio, WCHR program director and on-air personality. "He is a smart guy. As far as we're concerned, this ban is forever." He said the ban is not censorship because "our listeners' right to ask us not to play the music is equal to his right to say what he wants." When the "Rubbing Elbows With Ian Anderson" tour makes a stop in Red Bank on Friday, the radio station plans to be there. "We found somebody who will supply us with flags," LoCascio said, "and we'll be handing them out to anybody who wants one." _________________________________________________________________ Great deals on high-speed Internet access as low as $26.95. https://broadband.msn.com (Prices may vary by service area.) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 Nov 2003 15:04:44 -0800 (PST) From: John Barrington Jones Subject: lameass song virus I saw the movie title "Bruce Almighty" written down somewhere this morning, and ever since then I've had Elvis Costello's "Mouth Almighty" in my head, but with the word "Bruce" where "Mouth" should be.
