His left pupil is now permanently dilated however, as a result of a fistfight in his youth, so it is most often larger than the right. Since the iris is darker at the edge, it sometimes comes across that his left, where you only see a little bit of iris, is a different color than the right, where (especially in bright light) you might see a lot of the inner part of the iris which is a lighter shade of blue. But the "edge"-coloring is exactly the same. Bowie was probably most responsible for this mis-perception, and in fact I suspect he perpetuated the myth, as you can see in a lot of his album art. Check out some of the early TV performances on "The Best of Bowie" DVD collection. In these, it's pretty clear that his eyes are exactly the same color.
