Perhaps -- and if you need to hear mp3's to be sure, go to . :) I don't reject the label if the company I keep includes the artists that have been discussed here (plus, say, the 77s, Vigilantes of Love, The Call, U2...). In fact, I would argue Led Zeppelin as Christian Rock, on the merits of "Nobody's Fault But Mine" and "In My Time Of Dying." But, of course, that would get me hanged in the Southern Baptist churches in which I grew up. I say it's all one. If the spirit of the thing matches up with the kind of spirit you find in the teachings of Christ, why not consider it Christian? Music could be considered Aristotilean, Socratic, Mohammedan, even Buddhist without it being 'sacred' in intent (but then, I think all music is sacred -- I think music is actually the language of God, in all forms). ah well. thanks to James for giving me a window into which to spout, and thanks to the rest for the patience. - -- dolph ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 26 Aug 2003 16:14:52 -0700 From: Eb Subject: Kansan addresses queries about his mental health >Niko, did you know that a lot of people who came >from Riyadh of Saudi Arabia (after 1991)have >psychological problems (or neurika)? >Take care of your health! My family and I went to Saudi Arabia in August of 1993, after the first Gulf War. The people who were there in 1991 had experienced Scud attacks and had to wear gas masks on occasion, but did not seem overly affected to me. The Magic Kingdom has a lot of restrictive rules, but all the expatriates and locals know where to find their favorite brand of whisky, or bacon, Playboy magazines, Seka videotapes, etc. Even the Crown Prince himself, His Royal Highness Prince Abdullah, is a notorious card shark, engaging in marathon sessions with his bedouin buddies in the desert. The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, His Majesty King Fahd, is well-known for his earlier days on the Cote d'Azur, where he would be found in the gutter after all-night drinking parties. My beautiful wife Dina also happens to be an excellent cook and, during our five years in Riyadh, she also became an expert winemaker. She came up with all sorts of delicious recipes for Jeddah gin, Riyadh rum, and Dhahran daiquiries. All in all, Saudi Arabia is a fun and interesting place and I hope that God Almighty will arrange for me to visit there again in the future. I do not have any psychological problems and credit my excellent physical and mental health to my devotion to my personal Angel, Ms. Heidi Klum. My voluminous and brilliant writings in the Newsgroups and the English and German Forums of Heidi's official Web site http://www.heidiklum.com prove this and show that I am in constant communication with the Holy Spirit. I hope that at some time in the near future Saudi Arabia will abandon the ways of the 15th century, according to the Moslem calendar, and join the rest of the world in the 21st century AD. At that time, my dream is to open a Greek taverna there on the shores of the Gulf and belly dance with marvellous Heidi as the guest of honor. Here are some more photographs of Empress Heidi in Budapest this past weekend celebrating Fernando Alonso's triumph at the Hungarian Grand Prix: http://www.wireimage.com/GalleryListing.asp?navtyp=CLB&str=1615&styp=clbi& nm=Heidi%20Klum Alonso drives for the Renault Formula 1 team, one of Heidi's many sponsors. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 26 Aug 2003 16:22:06 -0700 From: "Jason R. IIRC there is a pub car park where you can stop for the price of afternoon tea with a lavish dollop of clotted cream. Otherwise Ebbor Gorge is the alternative for the cognoscenti: I had business in Sidmouth yesterday, so I popped into Lyme Regis on the way home and picked up a nice trilobite from the "all fossils in this bucket #2.75" selection. It's interesting how everything there has gone Jurassic since my last visit (about 1990). Even the buses have "Jurassic Coast Route" painted on the side. - - Mike "not T Rex, that's _Cretaceous_" Godwin n.p. Ebbor Gorge looks good (and probably not as packed out as Cheddar - the only reason we couldn't find anywhere because it was *full*). Thankfully I'd already had my cream tea earlier in the week.. *phew* As we've got a flat we're doing up in Weymouth, I've spent a good deal of time on the S. Coast, much of it in the sea... Lyme is fantastic, the most fossil-y place I've ever seen, with some absolutely huge ammonites in the rocks. All the way along that stretch is perfect for swimming - the water is warm(ish) and incredibly clean and fairly jellyfish-free. A couple of weeks ago I swam just under Golden Cap, at Seatown - highly recommended: great beach, great cliff (Golden Cap) and all within limping distance from the pub (I didn't get out of the sea until I got terrible cramp in my legs!). Marvellous.
