My brother wants to illustrate it. The article he suggested is rock songs and the people who inspired them. There's the famous "Layla", where Eric Clapton is singing to George Harrison's wife Patti. And there's Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone" and "Leopardskin Pillbox Hat", which it has been suggested were written about Edie Sedgewick. Anyone have any others? (I was afraid I had stopped all conversation on the list here with my brain surgery story. I have lots more if anyone is interested. Hey, there's an idea for another article...) "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" was written for Judy Collins, Stephen Stills' mainsqueeze at the time. Rick James' "Super Freak" was rumored to be about Linda Blair. Neil Sedaka wrote "Carol" for Carole King. David Crosby wrote "Triad" about a menage a trois he had with Grace Slick and someone else. A lot of McCartney's mid-period Beatles' songs were about or inspired by Jane Asher. And of course, we all know that narly every one of his latter-day songs were about Linda. - -- Cheers! - -g- "Soylens Viridis Homines Est" ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 9 Aug 2003 13:03:01 -0700 From: "Glen Uber" Subject: Re: Muses Tom earnestly scribbled: >Here are just two before my battery dies: >"Winona", about Winona Ryder - Matthew Sweet Primus did "Winona's Big Brown Beaver", >"Marilyn", about Monroe - Gumball And Dan Bern. >Oh, and didn't The Cult do a song about Edie Sedgewick also? If it's not limited to people, McCartney also wrote two songs about two different sheepdogs: "Martha My Dear" and "Jet." "Killing Me Softly" is about Don McLean. Also, I thought Matthew Sweet denied that "Winona" was about the actress. Oh - and there's been a big to-do about who exactly inspired Carly Simon to write "You're So Vain" (best contender: Warren Beatty). And in a burst of clairvoyance, Dylan actually was inspired to write "Idiot Wind" when he heard all the speeches of George W. Bush in a dream. ..Jeff J e f f r e y N o r m a n The Architectural Dance Society www.uwm.edu/~jenor/ADS.html :: we make everything you need, and you need everything we make ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 09 Aug 2003 22:25:04 +0200 From: Sebastian Hagedorn Subject: Re: Muses - -- Tom Clark is rumored to have mumbled on Samstag, 9.
