Mike, It sounds like you're using a PeeCee? *shudder* I can only share my experience using the Mac environment. I'm currently putting together a DVD of two Elvis Costello concerts I shot on mini-DV last April (A Tower Records in-store performance and a CBS Saturday Morning outdoor concert taping). I'm using Final Cut Pro 3 to edit and DVD Studio Pro for assembly. Final Cut Express (a stripped down version of FCP) is now available. The newly updated iLife apps iMovie 3 and iDVD 3 can also be used effectively and are included for free with all new "superdrive" (1x-4x burning DVD) enabled Macs. FCP, FCE and iMovie 3 allow you to set chapter markers in your edit, which will be recognized as selectable tracks in DVDSP and iDVD3. DVD Image size is 720 x 534 pixels Std. NTSC DV/DVD - this is typically resized down to 720 x 480 (separate discussion about D1 vs. DV NTSC is required to explain this) My camera is a simple, 1 CCD Canon Elura 40MC, which works great in FCP. I can log and batch capture my footage with FCP capturing video with device control. The Pioneer DVR-104 2x and Pioneer DVR-105 4x (works both in PeeCees and Apple calls them the "Superdrive") use DV-R media. Depending on your burn speed, the time for burning a 1-hour DVD can take, 1 hour (1x), 1/2 hour (2x), or 15 minutes (4x). I have no experience with the DV+R format. It's truly empowering being able to shoot, edit, and burn your very own productions. I'll have to defer the PC equivalent to someone who actually uses one for these purposes. My PC is around solely for 3d (Maya) and After Effects work. I know that Mary has shot and edited a short film on mini-DV (but I believe she, too, used a Mac for the production). Good luck with your endeavors and feel free to ask more questions and keep us informed on your progress. - -the other Mac Steve ; ) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 09 Feb 2003 11:37:06 -0500 From: "Stewart C. It includes a triple guitar dissection of "Jumpin' Jack Flash" in open-E (featuring the use of a Nashville-tuned acoustic) which for me is like finding the Holy Grail of guitar riffs. I had been playing it in standard for so many years...now it FINALLY sounds right, with those high b's ringin out. WOW. For his part Keith weighs in that he can't remember if it was open-E or open-D (capoed 2nd fret), but the article also tabs out "You Can't Always Get What You Want" (capo-8) and "Prodigal Son" in open-E. btw "Listening to the Higsons" sounds great played in open-E too!
