Ah those nights (it started at 11:30pm here), sitting up pulling geos and freaking at how good the plot lines were and how bad the location shots were. Bliss. > >I've been really getting into Dr Who again recently The common link being Terry Nation, of course. And kudos to he who remembered "Talons of Weng-Chiang," that was a classic. I was probably a little more freaked by "The Brain Of Morbius" meself. 'welcome back woj' posts: > A limited edition CD of new solo, acoustic songs, LUXOR, will > be given away free to ticket-holders (this will be made > available on the webstie too). There's good news! Now maybe we'll find out titles to these songs floating around..."creeped out American girl?"..."let the sun begin make you feel good?"...that instrumental he played in Chicago last year and apparently nowhere else? I could envision a great acoustic-only version of "If You Know Time" as well, ala the percussive "Unprotected Love" that he toured before doing it up with the SB's. My current favorite off the NDL/S3 combo is "Narcissus" with "Cherite" a close second. There's a ton of quality in these two releases. Rex: > So I saw The Two Towers on Saturday. Really great. Cross-cutting between the Book 3 & Book 4 material > really diminishes the "hey-they-left-that-scene out" factor. * Two Towers spoilers * I've really been struggling with this one. It's truly amazing, yes, there's a lot of "wow" factor there, the casting is superb, I'm used to the PJ style a bit more now I guess, but...but...and I don't want to sound the ungrateful fan for saying it, but...DON'T MAKE SHIT UP AND PUT IN THESE MOVIES. Jesus, that's frustrating. There's SO much that has to get clipped just to make it possible...that when things that NEVER HAPPENED are put in instead it's enought to make you chew your own arm off. We saw it Wednesday night with what seemed like a crowd pretty fluent in the chapter and verse. There was a lot of mumbling and "huh?" and "where the hell did that come from?" going around amidst the general enjoyment. There's four obvious deviations, one of which I felt was really quite serious rather than just 'a story modification made for dramatic purposes' (like the whole Aragorn going over the cliff into the river bit). I dunno, maybe I'm being too harsh, but when they fuck with Faramir... That being said, the positives are REALLY freaking amazing. I agree with Scary Mary on Gollum and the fight scenes being the highlights, though I swear during the climactic battle scene I saw some Orcs wearing tennis shoes. Helm's Deep was exactly as I imagined it would be, except reversed with the keep on the other side. Gandalf's ass-whooping of the Balrog, The Dead Pools, the Teeth of Mordor - all spectacular. IMO best homage in the movie: to the Hildebrandt calenders a) when Gandalf returns and b) Theoden on the throne. So exactly like the pictures it spooked me. And Grima was perfectly done (and fortunately NOT like the calenders). Driving home I was thinking that given the depths to which strip clubs usually sink in looking for promotions, it was strange that none of the ones around here was advertising a "hot nude elves" or "lord of the thongs" tie-in or the like. Perhaps they don't want to attract the wrong crowd.
