It's always the way; you get a new monkfish, just get it in tune, and then the thing goes and evolves on you. How many times has that happened to me. I hear that the place to for perfect monkfish practice is Kansas. Since nothing's allowed to evolve there, the whole scene's very stable. Unfortunately, since it's so far from the sea, the monkfish are unhappy, so can't hold a tune. So it's just all too much bother, you know? Stewart ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Dec 2002 10:13:51 -0800 From: "Rex.Broome" Subject: Two Towers, and more boobtubery So I saw The Two Towers on Saturday. Really great. A few things to quibble about-- not sure about the Ents but don't know how else they could have done 'em; minor Jar Jar factor on Gollum which fades quickly; extraneous subplot to get Liv Tyler back in there-- but overall so right on the mark that it's not worth complaining. Cross-cutting between the Book 3 & Book 4 material really diminishes the "hey-they-left-that-scene out" factor. Truly exciting, heart-pounding sequences even though you know exactly how it's going to turn out. The crowd loved it. It's wild that these books have been so successfully translated to accessible, massively popular entertainment without being dumbed down. Looks like the whole series is destined for classic status, and that whole "shooting three films at once" thing is paying big dividends. Wonder if that'll become more common practice after this and the Matrix sequels. ____________ Interesting lately to get a glimpse at the general TV viewing habits of various Fegs. Do any of y'all bother with any sitcoms any more? Frasier and Scrubs are about the only two we can countenance, along with some primetime animated fare. Wifey occasionally watches the shows before/after those, but not religiously. On the same tip, although my wife and I have wildly divergent taste in music and similar but not identical taste in films, our TV viewing habits are almost identical. I've tended to pick the series we try out, which we then mutually decide whether to keep up with or not; she picks the one-offs and special event programming. Not as a rule, that's just how it seems to evolve. I get the feeling this is the case with a lot of couples... probably because TV is such a "home and hearth" phenomenon whereas music & films in may ways involve leaving the home and entering the greater social sphere. I ususally end up watching Malcolm in the Middle too, though it's fallen off a bit of a cliff. Simpsons, Malcolm, King of The Hill, Andy Richter, That 70's Show... The great thing about TiVO is I can record them and then not even care about watching them. Some shows are in the "must watch" category, like The Simpsons, and others are in the "only if I'm bored" category, like That 70's Show. On another TV note, the Trio network is re-broadcasting Sessions at West 54th. I saw the Joe Jackson performance the other day, does he think he's Phillip Glass these days or what?
