Let's ask the tree... http://www.jh3.com/robyn/base/songs.asp?qq=2 Looks like Blue Jay Way, Here Comes The Sun, Old Brown Shoe, Only A Northern Song and Within You Without You. Surprisingly none of the Revolver tracks. There's a song on the new George Harrison album called "Picses Fish" that would be a perfect fit for Robyn and not just for the obvious reasons; it's also one of the more memorable tunes on the album. Would make a very nice tribute if Robyn were so inclined. - -rUss ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 17 Nov 2002 10:37:15 -0600 From: Dolph Chaney Subject: Re: Harrison covers At 09:54 AM 11/17/02, Russ Reynolds wrote: > > have RH&E or the SBs ever done a Harrison-penned Beatles cover? I want to say "It's All Too Much" got played--I can "recall" it, but it might have only occurred in my mind during a post-show smoke--still it sounded GREAT. Marc Children need encouragement. Well, actually, it's the artists *which I collect* that I've seen the most times, because my very simple database format makes it difficult/tedious to tally unsigned local losers and that type of thing. I wouldn't have bothered posting this info, except Hitchcock's at #1. And yes, social obligations are definitely a factor. ;) As is my location, obviously. Robyn Hitchcock (nine times...and *not* counting twice w/Soft Boys) Sonic Youth (seven times) Downy Mildew (seven times) Firehose (six times) Thelonious Monster (six times) Rufus Wainwright (five times, plus a small fraction of his opening set with Roxy Music) also five times: Throwing Muses, Mudhoney, the Muffs, Redd Kross, Yo La Tengo, Stereolab, Sebadoh, Poi Dog Pondering, Butthole Surfers four times: Bazooka, the Chills, Amy Correia, King Crimson, Bob Mould, Pere Ubu, the Posies, the Spinanes, the Sugarplastic, Victoria Williams, the Wondermints, Young Fresh Fellows, Hugo Largo Also, my database claims that I saw the long-forgotten El Grupo Sexo just *once*, but I know I saw them several times more in casual, on-campus shows and things like that. I just didn't jot down these appearances, apparently. Given all the concerts I've seen, you'd think there would be a bunch of artists which I've seen eight, nine, 10 times, but I guess my concert experiences are spread out pretty thinly. Oh well...I'm sure that NO ONE here has seen Robyn Hitchcock more times than me, riiiiight??? ;) I saw Low last night for the first time...a good show, though it was last-minute transferred to a crummy venue which seriously impeded the show's quality. Among other things, the set was brutally cut off after a hour, because a DJ dance party was scheduled immediately afterwards! Oh well...I'm sure > that NO ONE here has seen Robyn Hitchcock more times than me, > riiiiight??? I wish I could've seen Robyn during his "prime" with The Egyptians, but only have caught him solo about 4 times (once with Billy Bragg - great show) and twice with the Softboys. Believe it or not, I was totally unfamiliar with his Softboys work until seeing them last year at Irving Plaza. It was one of the best concerts because I was hearing all this great material from Underwater Moonlight for the very first time. The Young Fresh Fellows were on fire too. Incidentally, this year has been my "Year of Costello", seeing him 8 times in NYC alone! 1. 3 hour Bravo "Musicians" taping at the West 54th St Studios. 2. CBS Saturday Morning taping in front of FAO Schwartz 3. Tower Records in-store for "When I Was Cruel" release 4 & 5. Back-to-back June shows at The Beacon 6. NBC Summer Concert Series at Rockefeller Center 7 & 8. Back-to-back October shows at The Beacon Next show I'm looking forward to catching is my first Yo La Tengo gig. They're playing 8 nights in a row at Maxwell's for Hanukah - surely I can't NOT miss them this time around. ;) - -Steve ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 17 Nov 2002 21:59:29 -0500 From: "Maximilian Lang" Subject: Re: Robyn on top, believe it or not >From: Steve Talkowski >Next show I'm looking forward to catching is my first Yo La Tengo gig. >They're playing 8 nights in a row at Maxwell's for Hanukah - surely I can't >NOT miss them this time around. ;) > >-Steve If you sdon't have tickets yet get them, 3 shows are sold out already. It's amazing to think that this thing goes back to 1996! It's now up to eleven pages of thumbnails... (and I still need to update the index). If anyone has more pictures from the last tour (of Fegs, that is), I'd love to include them. Jim, Mark: What happened to the ones you took at Slims? I'd particularly like to see some of the new faces on the list - and there's still quite a few old faces who have managed to avoid getting their pictures taken! They are here: http://www.fegfotos.com/sboys/amoeba.html Oh and I'm still working on my audience recordings from Slims and the Amoeba instore - I'll have 'em online realsoonnow. I am very impressed by it. Without going into details - - that's what google is for, and it's a month since I saw the theatrical version: Big Bits: The extra early hobbit/life in the Shire stuff is a little cutesey but then hobbton is meant to be that way. Gandalf/Bilbo/Ring beefed up. The Lothlorien sequence is better than the pit stop it was in the theatrical release. One of my dislikes of the original film was the way they seemed to shoot in and out L. Little Bits: From short scenes to restoration of cut dialogue the new stuff is almost all character/story related rather than action sequences. Gimli acquires more character and the dwarf/elf tensions felt a bit more. Aragorn's role as exiled king get more weight and the Boromir/Aragorn King/Gondor setup is better explained and the conflict of interest between these two is improved. For a fan of the books, rather than being an action/effects grokker this all adds up to more satisfying telling of the tale. Bonus Bits: The cast talking about each other is as self indulgent and self congratulatory as expected but other than this one I have found those documentaries that I have had time to view quite fascinating. Great to see the wonderful Alan Lee in action.
