Well.... we are getting closer.... a little more than a week away. I was curious if any FEGS going to the Toronto show want to get together before the show or something. I am dragging my friends with me from Buffalo up there and we will be spending the day walking the streets (now garbage free) of Toronto. Let me know! Here's a site that discusses the cinematography and visual effects of "Minority Report" http://dreamworksfansite.com/minorityreport/the_making_of.php I really liked the color of the movie, I thought the coldness was appropriate for the theme. Tom Cruise was okay (I'm not a TC fan at all) and agree with Jeffrey's comments about TC's thinking on screen. I thought the story wrapped up a little too neatly as well. But I do want one of those cars, as well as the highway system of their future. I'm not sure if this has been mentioned on the list - but have any of the UK fegs seen "24 Hour Party People" and if so, how was the movie? Or for that matter, read the book? IIRC, the book _Life of Python_ states that John Cleese's father changed the family name right about the time his son was born. Since John Cleese was born in late 1939 (29 years to the day before your humble correspondent), this would fit in well with the theory that his father changed the name to avoid razzing in the army -- late '39 to early '40 was probably a big time for voluntary and involuntary enlistment in the British Army. - --Chris ______________________________________________________________________ Christopher Gross On the Internet, nobody knows I'm a dog. chrisg@gwu.edu ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Jul 2002 11:25:49 -0400 From: "ross taylor" Subject: why a squid? and in the element of summer the dogs suspended in the heat the midges in columns ... - --- James-- John Cleese is a Yankee! Thanks for that, I just love words. In my early days as a secretary I made some phone gaff & they sent me to a 4 hour staff training session on "Telephon Techniques." It included an informational film w/ Cleese acting the part of someone w/ bad telephone techniques. It was the only completely unfunny thing I've seen him in. - --- Nat & Kay -- I never have dreams w/ famous people in them. My only musical dreams are me on stage not knowing the songs or somehow my guitar won't work. Well, when I was in college I had a dream about Winston Churchill being very unpleasant. - --- Mike G. -- Thanks for the bio info on Chaplin, I'm still going thru it. There was something in "Why A Duck" about his going to the same whorehouse the Marx brothers went to as teenagers, but being too shy & just spending his whole time playing with the madam's dog. That was touching. In general the Marx brothers make me proud to be human.
