Read on for why I think that's so, or skip to the end for my suggestion. Those 4-channel pots are meant for controlling the input to a 4- channel amp, not for controlling the output to speakers. At least the one I have in my junk box is. You could use L-pads, which maintains the same impedance load to the amp while changing the output to the speaker. They cost more than potentiometers, but you could conceivably set up one each of the two new speakers, then just adjust them until it sounds like you're not off-centre. The same problem comes into play if you want to use 4 speakers. Unless your amp is set up for this it's not a good idea. You can wire multiple speakers to equal the load of a single speaker, but not if they're two speakers of the impedance your amp wants. You need two speakers of either half of double the impedance, wired in series or parallel respectively. Or you can hook up 4 speakers of the right impedance for your amp: (two in parallel) in series with (two in parallel) = (1/2 load) + (1/2 load) = the right load. But all that is more complicated than what I'm about to suggest. All those speakers are likely to mess up the stereo image pretty well, too, so you're not going to end up feeling like you're sitting where the producer wants you to be. SUGGESTION: There are a lot of sub-woofer systems being sold now. The principle is that the ear is more sensitive to direction for the hi frequencies. You can stick the sub-woofer anywhere you want. Assuming you want those other two speakers left where they are, you can just add a couple of piezo tweeters on either side of your work area. They filter out the lows all by themselves -- no crossover required, and their impedance is very high, so they don't present a loading problem to the amp. (lower impedance than rated draws more power out of your amp than it may be prepared to supply) You'll get your sense of sound direction from them, and the power from the speakers you already have. They're cheap, too. You can get them at Radio Scrap for peanuts. And they're little, so you can set them up right on your work area wherever they'll sound best. You'll get most of your impression of direction from them, so the stereo image won't be munged quite so much. You'll still hear highs from the original speakers (unlike a real sub-woofer system), but you're going to hear more of them from those nearby tweeters, and the original speakers are going to sound pretty much the same whenever you're in the listening area they were originally meant to serve. blah blah blah.....
