There's no dead relatives carried around there, just Dr. Boots and Plunkett. Man, I love that book - the description of the "letter from Dr. Boots," St. Bea's Bread, the "medicine's daughter" that compresses perceived time... too bad the protagonist is named Rush That Speaks. It's like this SF book that I read once - probably written in the 80's - with a matriarch character named Intel. That plot summary is vaguely ringing a bell... it kinda reminds me of Greg Bear's "Infinity Concerto" where the memories of the dead are pressed or encoded into trees. But that's not the same thing. blah, n. _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 04 Jun 2002 20:38:22 -0400 From: mike hooker Subject: DYLAN COVERS hi, i'm making a friend a disc of dylan covers and want to include a bunch robyn did. i dont want to use the ones from robyn sings, i want to use cuts from boots. i know he did two at the bottom line, but need to jog the collective feg memory for more. if anyone can remember a song and where it was performed, it would be a great help. thanks much please see my music trading page: New URL http://hometown.aol.com/mhooker216/myhomepage/index.html being its AOL, its not always up. try it a few times, or ask me for a text list. thanks have fun, mike hooker ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 04 Jun 2002 18:07:11 -0700 From: "Russ Reynolds" Subject: June 4th > Speaking of June 4th speaking of June 4th, do any Python fans remember what happened on June 4th, 1973? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 4 Jun 2002 21:19:46 -0400 From: "Roberta Cowan" Subject: Re: June 4th nothing 8-) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 4 Jun 2002 20:28:15 -0500 From: "Michael Wells" Subject: Re: DYLAN COVERS Mr. Hooker: > i'm making a friend a disc of dylan covers and want to include a bunch > robyn did. i dont want to use the ones from robyn sings, i want to use cuts > from boots. i know he did two at the bottom line, but need to jog the > collective feg memory for more. if anyone can remember a song and where it > was performed, it would be a great help. Doesn't every Largo show have about eight Dylan covers? And they're all "Rainy Day Women #12 & 35," aren't they? With Jon Brion Lee Phillips Finn on Guitar/Bass/Drums/Piano/Harmonica/Vocals? "4th time Around" on Robyn Sings is from 11-2-99 Maxwell's, and I'm pretty sure the incomplete "Not Dark Yet" is from 10-18-00 Grant Lee Hitchock so those two are out. There is a cover of "Rainy Day Women" on the 11-20-98 Mercury Lounge show, 8-26-99 Largo has a rather likeable "Chimes of Freedom," I don't much care for "Went to See the Gypsy" from the 7-18-87 (late) Santa Monica show but really really like "Born in Time" from KEXP Seattle 4-18-02. Of course, there's also "NDY" and "Johanna" from the 4-16-02 Chicago show that just rolled through town. Michael " Ps. Of course the three greatest Dylan covers of all time are: "When I Paint My Masterpiece (Dead)," "...Watchtower" (Hendrix), and "When the Ship Comes In" (Clancy Bros.). ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 4 Jun 2002 22:20:40 -0400 (EDT) From: Jill Brand Subject: my quarterly request for computer help (Microsoft sucks) Ken W., Fric Chaud (God, what is your real name?!?), and anyone else who has come to my computer aid in the past, well, maybe you could be my savior again. You have the dreaded "Alice" virus which, if not treated, will cause your entire computer to swell up to the size of a house. Treatment involves a complicated clicking of the heels, repeated thrice, and ingestion of copious quantities of mashed prunes. Alternately, right-click on your desktop, select "properties," click on "settings" tab, and adjust the screen area slider to something reasonable - - mine's at 1024 x 768. Sometimes you get time off for good behavior, though. > Soccer is short for association - there used to be 2 types of football: > rugby and association, shortened to rugger and soccer... Well, you see, that really implies that they just settled on "soccer" because "asser" was too embarrassing. Frankly, I don't like the name "soccer"; for those that don't know the true etymology it implies that you shouldn't be wearing shoes, and you really *should* wear shoes when playing it. I've always felt that the world should standardize on something more descriptive, like "shinball" or "kickface." > Not sure what you'd call that US game where it's like rugby but > everyone wears armour... That's called "Global Cop," I believe... Only the rules have changed so much lately, what with these new laser-guided smart bombs, it's really taken all the strategy and suspense out of it. So most of us just watch professional wrestling now. > I hear that America is very good at baseball, though - they always > seem to win the World Series... nothing like a good game of rounders!
