Does this hold true for > everyone? I think most people's favorite doctor is Tom Baker, regardless, but I suppose that's most probable since he held the office for 7 years or so. I can't remember whether I saw Jon Pertwee first or Tom Baker, but I would consider Baker my favorite only by a slight margin over Pertwee. I liked Colin Baker more than most people did, and Sylvester McCoy less than most people did. Hartnell and Troughton were, of course, terrific but I didn't get acquainted with their interpretations until much later. Paul McGann was terrific but his movie was horrid. > From: Michael R Godwin > Jon Pertwee was a tremendous bore > (particularly when > teamed with the uninspiring Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart) I can't agree -- I've been watching some of the Pertwee episodes on PBS and I thought their interplay was terrific, much more entertaining than the typical companion relationship (especially that limp daisy Jo Grant). But Pertwee was one of the most abrasive Doctors in his way and I like him less now than I did when I was a kid. > PS My mate Stuart was totally besotted with Deborah > Watling. Good god, of course. Victoria, Zoe, and Jamie were easily the cutest companions, though Romana I and even the much-maligned Adric aren't far behind in my book. > From: dmw > but baker > surely had the best "companions" ever, the delectable > sarah jane and > leela. They weren't bad, either. I always preferred the companions who could actually DO something -- Leela with the knife, Romana with the brains and her own sonic screwdriver (cue Dr. Freud), even, I'll reluctantly concede, "Ace" with her "Nitro-9" (another fan favorite I can't stand). > what was the deal with him trotting around > the galaxy with > galpals anyway? was that quite properly british and kid > appropriate?) Sounds like the basis for a good Robyn song! - -tc - --------------------------------------------------------- Dolphin luring swimmers off for sex Mon Jun 3, 6:07 PM ET LONDON (Reuters) - Swimmers have been warned to stay away from a sexually frustrated dolphin off a seaside resort after it tried to lure unwary humans out to sea in a bid to mate with them. The Times newspaper said on Tuesday that the bottlenose dolphin, nicknamed Georges, had arrived off Weymouth, Dorset, about two months ago after following a trawler across the Channel. "This dolphin does get very sexually aggressive. He has already attempted to mate with some divers," U.S. marine mammal expert Ric O'Barry told the paper. "When dolphins get sexually excited, they try to isolate a swimmer, normally female. They do this by circling around the individual and gradually move them away from the beach, boat or crowd of people." O'Barry said the dolphin, which weighs an estimated 400 lbs (180 kg), would get very excited and rough and try to mate with the swimmer, possibly causing them to drown. The dolphin also has a fascination for boat propellers and has been injured several times. But it has resisted attempts to move to less-populated waters, the paper said. Since his arrival at Weymouth, Georges has become a major attraction at the seaside resort with thousands of people taking to the sea in boats to watch him play. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 4 Jun 2002 00:20:57 -0700 (PDT) From: Mike Swedene Subject: Uncarved Covers? the vompletist in me is rearing it's ugly head once again.... does anyone have any scans of the Uncarved Pumpkins cds?
