I'd love to say it was covered in pink scales, lots of tiny feathers, valves that opened up and closed very tight together... but, no, I'm afraid not. It was round, with lighter blue spokes. I do remember it being quite the most beautiful shade of blue I'd ever seen. Gave it a bit of a prod, but didn't want to destroy its perfect roundness... Compton beach is so beautiful, as is that whole coast of the Island, from Freshwater with its (now sadly collapsed) cliff arch, down to Whale Chine with its round stones and ancient bones every now and again freed from the cliffs. Another great thing about the Island is that you'll never (well, I've never heard of it) find a sleeping tarantula on any of the beaches... When I was a young 'un, I was wandering around the beach in Florida and saw an odd blue thing half-covered with seaweed. I poked it with my finger and - - EEW! It was a jellyfish! I had recently read a horrifying account, in some kid's book, of being attacked by a Portugese man-o-war, so I was particularly freaked out by this encounter. I have to say, incidentally, that I very much doubt I can trace my ancestry back to Palestine. My family has been blonde for generations (I am naturally blonde, despite the goth look), and I suspect I am the descendent of converts. A friend suggested that my ancestors were Khazars. I'm not so sure about this. Once I was talking to some very religious girls who lived in my dorm, about how I was reading the Bible for a class, and that I enjoyed reading about my ancestors. The girls actually believed that I had real, specific ancestors who were mentioned in the Bible. By the way, I would very much like Bavaria. I hear it's nice there. n. _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 18 Apr 2002 18:33:06 +0200 From: Sebastian Hagedorn Subject: Re: deities in a tiny little antique bottles (0% content of any sort) - --On Wednesday, April 17, 2002 13:54:42 -0700 "Jason R. Enjoy being at the gathering, usually wearing my cloak of invisibility. It *is* like a party, yet when someone shows up who is not feeling festive because their country is at war they are still welcomed... I like that. As for Robyn content, I've sent away for that CD of Dylan covers because I adore Visions of Johanna and want to hear his version of it. Next: the soundtrack of Rushmore. I saw this for the second time last night and had the same thoughts both times about the soundtrack. The music is of my generation (I'm 48) and I consider it all very much MINE. Yet, I have a theory that the *worst* song of each artist or group was chosen for inclusion. Cat Stevens I am wild about, yet his "Here Comes My Baby" is very much a pop production and doesn't really fit in with the material he produced later. I am a bit confused about why these particular songs were chosen for the soundtrack. Great movie. More "proof" of my theory. The John Lennon song "Oh Yoko" is an anachronism within the context of the movie, and sweet and loving as the words to Yoko are and much as I idolize him, this is a lame song. That sounds like the best of moments, when imagination is floored by reality. What shade? - --------------------------- Which suggests to a question I've always had, and which just might be the sort of high geek concern that other fegs would know about. Or not. There are certain colors in nature which seem almost unreproducable outside of nature. I'm thinking of a mid-purplish blue that glows in the sky sometimes, when turned into material it usually dulls out. Or the red you get when light is going thru a tulip. The red we wear is never as light. If it is it's pink. Even light cadmium red in paints isn't light enough. And if you add white, even a translucent white,--its just pink again. There is also a dark violet that looks muddy when made into objects, but which looks luminious in nature. Is this optics? Something to do with the nature of light? The best way to reproduce such colors in man-made stuff is usally in glass(partly why I like beading so much, you get to play with light)since the light passes thru and there are multiple angles of reflection. I want to live to see the day when we wake up and put on high-tech undergarments that glow, and then outerclothes knitted from some sort of flexiable glass, so we eminate light. Which we can turn up or down, depending on our mood. Was part of the beauty of the blue jellyfish because the jelly acted like a crystal, intensifying the light? I think part of the reason I like beaches so much is because the crystals in the sand(and the mirrors in the water) throw back light. So even on a cloudy day theres a glow that feels internal. - -------------------------- Eek! Enough rambeling. Jill, I wish I could make it up to Worchester but neither money nor time allow.
