Oddly, I don't recall a while lot of lesbertarianism in Anne Rice. She's pretty solid on the gay stuff in most of her fiction. Well, I love _Alien Resurrection_, but I think I may be one of two or three people (plus my girlfriend) who would say that. I loved his Piter De Vries in _Dune_ as well, but I think I may be etc. I've heard _Blue Velvet_ is a must-see but I haven't-seen yet. > From: Christopher Gross > > Ah, "Wrecked." Lots of people seem to hate "Doublemeat Palace," but I thought it was *hilarious*. Not perfect, of course (I could've done without the whole Amy giving Willow a magic jolt subplot), but pretty successful if viewed as one of the comedy-horror episodes. They did offer a plausible reason why Buffy went to work there: she needed money right away, and at the DMP she was sure to be hired and could start quickly. But you're right -- the big question is, why does she *stay* there? To make it more plausible, the writers could show her applying for other jobs while she works there. Or, if Buffy is suppposed to be too depressed to get off her butt and look for something better, they should at least show Willow and Xander trying to encourage her to find a new job. Of course, W and X have their own problems to worry about.... > Oh, and another minority opinion: I like the Legion of Dim (a/k/a those > three nerdy guys) Me too! I also refer to them as the Nerd Herd. I like the way Warren, in particular, is gradually drifting from cartoonish evil to *real* evil. And I loved the little scene in "Normal Again" when Jonathan says to Andrew "Have you even *read* Legion of Doom?" and Andrew looks flabbergasted, as if it was such a vicious insult that he couldn't respond coherently. And of course in "Smashed," when Spike forces Warren to help him by threatening their Boba Fett figure, and then Andrew tries to make conversation with him about Dr. Who and Red Dwarf. Classic! > > Ah, "Wrecked." This is generally acknowledged to be the worst > > episode of the current season, > > well, maybe: certainly, it was heavy-handed. But I don't think it was > either unprepared for or in some senses not a necessary part of the > show's development. Sure, I agree there. However, I just don't think it was done very skilfully. For one thing, I think the whole drug addiction-magic addiction metaphor was way overdone, and it reminded me too much of our government's "War on Drugs," which I detest. I half-expected to see Nancy Reagan credited as a script consultant. But aside from that, the whole episode just seemed kinda flat. Too few good jokes, too little character interaction, and too slow-moving. It's like what I wrote earlier about the wedding episode: the problem was not with the basic story, it was with the details they fleshed it out with. ("Beer Bad" was the opposite: the basic story was lame, though some of the little touches were good.) BTW, if you want to find the titles of all the episodes, check out . They also have detailed episode descriptions, quotes and trivia up through the middle of season 5. Note to Drew: I liked (though not loved) Alien Resurrection, and I agree with you about Brad Dourif in Dune. And reaching back a little, I agree with you about Halle Berry too.... - --Chris (okay, so I am a geeky fan boy) "Hey, Ken, wanna see my impression of Gandhi?"
