New subscriber, probably won't stay long (on too many lists already). Only started listening to RH recently... got "Underwater Moonlight" when it came out (after reading a nice article about it in Magnet magazine), and checked out the solo stuff via the Storefront DVD. Got me a minidisc recorder and a ticket to next week's Atlanta show. Wanted to know Robyn's policy on recording shows. I see references to bootlegs on the websites, but no specific info. I'm new at this concert-taping thing, so I just want to get the facts straight since it's a small venue and I'll have trouble hiding the mics. Anyone else going to be there? What are the chances the new album will be out in time to buy it at the show? Anyone selling "Can of Bees" or the other bonus track-laden Ryko releases? I'd've included Split Enz's True Colours, only I don't think they ever recorded the song, (although they did perform it fairly often). Well you still have plenty of time to get the mics implanted under your brow. The cable is then run around the skull on either side, down the spine and then out yer ass. Just another good reason to buy high-end cables and loose pants. You shouldn't have any problem recording as far as Robyn is concerned. Beyond him it is a toss up as far as reactions go. I have been surpised at were and who has allowed or not allowed taping. There is no logic in opposing it, simply ignorance. I remember playing with this dude when I was in high school who was a total twit when it came to making recordings of our band. He didn't write shit, but somehow thought that if someone somewhere even got to listen to his bass lines they would get famous using his licks and take all HIS money. It was a real laugh. He was not a ground breaking bass player in any way but the idea of making analog recordings on a 50 dollar tape machine and then handing them out downtown was something he thought would ruin him as a musician. Fucking hilarious. We got rid of him, made some recordings with the new bass player, handed them out and started playing gigs within the month. He sells used Fords now. I know that is a little different than recording Robyn and there is nothing wrong with selling used Fords, but any fear anyone has that they associate with loosing money, recognition etc.. as a result of me recording any show and then passing it out to 10 or more people is balderdash. I wonder what type of reaction you'd get at a metallica concert if the "band" saw you holding a mic? Keep the thing hidden as well as possible and just try not to make the equipment obvious. Lots of neat methods and devices for concealment are available, if you can't get the mics implanted in time. gSs ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Apr 2002 07:12:58 -0800 (PST) From: "Eugene Hopstetter, Jr." Subject: News about The Pixies Music mastering guru Steve Hoffman is currently working on a CD featuring the first release of some rare Pixies titles from the original master tapes: Yahoo! The only other one I can think of is the Stranglers' "MenInBlack," which appeared in the US on "The Raven" and not on "The Gospel According to the Men In Black." But that's probably because their US label messed with the track selections, so maybe they don't count. Actually, IIRC, "Gospel..." was a US-only release, wasn't it? If any of you were wondering why I unsubbed, it wasn't because of anything that happened here. It took me this long to decide which way to go. It's cable modem for me, and it costs me $30 Canadian a month. That would be $20 US.
