JAMES / WFAA-TV News Every day people come to the SPCA looking for a best friend. But puppies need more than just love - they need owners who can afford to care for them. Money is in short supply at the SPCA. A tough economy last year means the organization did not receive the donations it needs. In fact, their budget came up nearly $1 million short. Now, there are Tucker, a trained 5-year-old Shepherd mix, was surrended to the SPCA because his owners were moving. But executive director Warren Cox says the situation was likely complicated by hard times. "It could be economics, because generally, people don't just leave their pets behind when they move," Cox said. "I'd like to think that they're heartbroken that they had to leave him behind." But, it's happening far too often lately. In about 10% of the cases last month, moving was cited as the reason pets were abandoned. "They might have to move to an apartment, they might have to move to another city," Cox said. "But it really hurts me to see these things happen, especially for the older animals." Officials want people to realize that pets are like an investment. In good times and bad, it takes a lifetime commitment - which in turn reaps years of return loyalty and love. http://www.wfaa.com/news8/articles/020116wfaa_am_pets.393dd7.html gSs ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Jan 2002 10:48:49 -0700 From: "SIMPSON,HAMISH (A-Sonoma,ex1)" Subject: RE: Hamish-a-go-go OK,OK, you win!
